I heard recently when they anounced the planned expansion for the airport over the next 10 years that flights to China, amongst other far flung destinations, were on the cards. They were also planning to quadruple the amount of freight handled - all of this done without adding a second runway.
I don't remember if they put a time scale on the China flights and I don't think they mentioned who would be operating them.

With regards to the China flights, they are expecting them to com in within the next 7 - 10 years apparently. they are also expecting flights to the states in the not to distant future.
Quoting RAFVC10 (Reply 1): Ryanair has started new route from Derry to EMA on February 6th.
Planned new routes to BCN, DUB, MJV, CIA and SNN from March 2006 and operated by FR
Ryanair didnt start Derry in Feb. That is one of the new routes starting when the second aircraft is based there from next month. The 4 new routes that started last month are Lodz, Wroclaw, Bergerac and Limoges.
The other 5 routes starting in April are Berlin, Nimes, Carcassone, Nantes, Dinard.
DUB, MJV, CIA and SNN have been served by Ryanair from EMA for quite a long time now and are established routes.
Hopefully the terminal extension will go ahead over the next few years along with the runway extension. It will make it over 3000mtrs TORA.
Thomas Cook will be offering flights to SSH and BJL (Banjul) over the winter. That will make SSH 3 times weekly and BJL 2 times weekly.
Also Cuba starts next feb along with CUN and SFB with First Choice.

I presume we are talking about Cargo to China, and not passenger traffic.
