Waow... they just launched the service 6 days ago and they have already announced that they will go double daily on their newly launched Hamburg Service.... Not only that ... EK has also announced that they will sponsor the local Soccer Team of Hamburg with a multi million sponsorship deal...

Lufthansa??? Should it be afraid?

Emirates is currently offering some killer fares from Hamburg, actually I wanted to fly to Tehran for 381 EUR incl. taxes (!!!) but I think it isn't a good idea to go to Iran currently so I think I will take advantage of the special fare to Shanghai.

Here are all offers:

What planes will they fly on the two HAM flights? Interesting to see that they first postponed the HAM service due to plane shortage and now made it two dailies.

But it's true BestWestern, I really don't see what all the fuss is. The EK Business class seat is nothing special at all and at the end of the day, neither is their First Class sleeper, which is actually in rather bad taste, unless you enjoy the sight of gold colored plastic that is.

In Economy, I admit that the inflight entertainment is pretty good and the Economy meals may be pretty oppulent. However, what EK has repeatedly failed to understand, and which has even already been addressed by their CEO, is that the size of the the meals, seat comfort and the selection of inflight entertainment are just not good enough if you have an armada of staff who look and act as if basically, they couldn't care less. At least that's the impression I've always got with EK.

From what I read, the load factor is already around 90% booked for the next few weeks.
The aircraft they are using is an A330. And according to the papers flying with EK to Australia knocks off 8 hours travel time from Hamburg....

That's exactly the point - EK offers one stop service to Australia from many secondary airports in Europe. Make it about 4 hours less when conncting to QF in FRA, but still, they are much faster than most other connections.

Besides that, 7 abreast seating in C in an A340/332 (not the 500s,OK) is not that exciting, especially when the planes are full. Concerning the "crap" I prefer the elegance and modern design of SK and OS C classes over the indeed tasteless cabin (and Hotel) furnishing designs in the UAE, These guys must believe that Louis IV is still the trend in Europe.

From 29th Oktober 2006 the A330 will be changed to 77W on Monday and Wednesday and 772 on the other days according to the "old" schedule (just one flight daily). Don´t know how this is going to be changed with two daily flights.

Amazing... Simply amazing... the loads, the growth, the fares.  crazy

2600€ for a return in c-class to Australia is for sure a benchmark price. I can't wait to see LH's reaction on such fares.  banghead

Doesn't EK's success in HAM also have something to do with Iran ?? I always heard there was a huge Iranian community in Hamburg. Hence IR's flights from HAM.

Lufthansa does not fly to Australia and has left the market to Thai,AUA and Singapore Airlines (Star that is..)
EK will eat away most of the OZ traffic from Germany .

You know what's even better?

Buy a Business Class ticket to Auckland for 2811 EUR and get 35.563 miles for the trip, then buy another 5.000 miles for just 125 USD and voila, you have additionally a free return flight from HAM to DXB.

Too bad that I can't afford the C-Class flight to AKL. ;(

I can't either be reassured  Wink , but considering there might be a chance to fly on the comfortable 77W for both sectors, it really is a nice fare promotion... I guess you can't fly with the A345 for that price or am I wrong ?

You can, I just looked for some random dates in May and got a 2,647.14 EUR Business Class fare for HAM-DXB-SYD and return (DXB-SYD-DXB operated by the A345 nonstop flight).

I have to correct myself, of course brings you 40.000 miles further than just to DXB, traveling to BAH and DOH is also possible for the same amount of miles.

Thanks for the correction Patrick because I always imagined that travelling with the A345 service to Down Under with EK was only possible with an extra charge... This makes the fare even more attracticve.

From reading the article, it appears to me that EK are just saying they will probably go 2x daily to HAM in the future. They have not said, "We are increasing our daily Hamburg flight to 2x daily starting on xx/xx/xx." They are probably just looking into it just now, sorting out aircraft etc.

I'm not saying it won't happen, as it most definately will. After all, its EK we're talking about. I'd just be very surprised if 2x daily was introduced before the service has ran for a year or so.

Agreed that some of the interiors are a little overpowering but that aside the business and first cabins are very good. Having just come back from DXB on EK in business I can say this without question as the experience is still fresh in my mind. I'm assuming you have flown EK in business and first, if not your opinion is really pretty worthless.

Sadly, it is true that EK crew have gotten a little les pleasant to deal with over the years.

I started a thread last week about EK's sports sponsorships worldwide, ini it I showed surprise that EK did not sposnor any major German team given the importance of Germany to their business. I guess the new Hamburg jersey will fill that void.
