Its a small start, but to see a mx base and a 170 crew base in PIT is a good thing in my opinion. Maybe this will help pave the way for PIT to return somewhat to its glory days. I still think that Steven Wolf should be billed the fill amount for the cost of the new terminal.

I thought the article in the Post Gazette stated that they were going to use the airside terminal as opposed to building a new one, or is that what you meant to say. If that is so, then pardon this post...

I believe the thread starter is referring to the cost of the current X terminal. Sorry, but the new building was needed. The old one really put the Pit in PIT!

Wait a minute... The airside terminal IS the "X" one and not the old commuter terminal. What the hell was I thinking?!! That's especially bad given that I have been to that terminal numerous times! AAAARRRGH!!! That given now, I wonder which concourse they'll use?

The USAirways gates. Republic is US-Express, along with a few others.

Great news for PIT, as it shows somewhat of a commitment from US in terms of scheduling enough birds through town to keep an mx base viable, and means we'll see many of these beauties running through PIT for a long time to come.

Yeah, thanks. I see that now. I also did a google search on the airline and found out that it used to be its own carrier until it was bought by NWA in 1986... I found out later on in the site that they are now a part of US Airways. Your post provided additional information that Republic works also with DL, AA, and UA, so thanks for the info.  Smile

This is really great news for PIT. I hope this will also bring added service and new cities from PIT.

I can see UA suddenly changing from Skywest CR7's to Republic/Shuttle E-170's on ORD-PIT's non-mainline runs. Likewise, a Shuttle E70 from SLC? From the way the articles are written this will be for Republic as a whole, not just US-Express Republic, and those two aforementioned routes would seem most likely to get DL/UA birds into town.

WTAE-TV reports that it is likely that Republic will be performing maintenance for American Eagle/Connection, Delta Connection, and United Express as well. Do you guys think this will be happening?

Also, do you think any maintenance will be performed on any aircraft other than the E70 for US, DL, AA, or UA? AA has no E70s.

That's too big of a production for just US' birds I would think... although the AA thing is very interesting unless it'll be ERJ's too.

If US ran E70's ABE-PIT I'd rejoin Dividend miles immediately. Hell, I'd settle for an ERJ.

Columbus, OH is currently a maintenance base for our entire fleet, the E-135/140/145 and the E-170s. I don't think you'll see DL and UA beating down Shuttle America's door to provide service on our own 170s to PIT. CMH is close enough that it doesn't make it necessary for our 170s to move through Pittsburgh.

As for Republic, please keep in mind we are not the same airline as the original Republic, which as mentioned by a previous poster, was purchased by NWA many years back. Our CEO personally owns the rights to the Republic Airways / Republic Airlines name and thats how our holding company and newest subsidiary were branded that way.

This is not very clear? Who is our entire fleet referring to? Why wouldn't they just service the E70s there then?

The new PIT base must be for something other than just US.

I think you might be seeing some RJs on this route within the next year or so. ABE does very well from PIT as far as I know. I thought you were moving from Allentown back to Pittsburgh though?

I'm hoping. Would actually be Clarion, but still the PIT region as opposed to the hellish side of the state.

Likely. Unless Erie is cheaper, it's about equidistant and for some reason Erie is cheaper than PIT sometimes. After all, I still do like CO and they just got ERJ's.  Smile

That said, PIT-IND is an E70, and I don't have "status" yet on CO.

Pose as parent/child and come to Ohio!  drunk   duck

Either way, good news for PIT. After how US screwed them, it's good that they're getting some of the puzzle back together.

Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

Yes, PIT-IND is 4 daily E70s and the last flight IND-PIT is often sold out.

I have a question, is Shuttle America going to do work out of PIT as well or is this just Republic Airlines? I am confused with this now. Does Republic operate for anyone other than US Express and if they do what aircraft do they operate.

I thought Republic operated all E70s for DL, UA, and US. I didn't realize they did any subsidiary work with AA.

Really? The times I've been in that concourse at IND, sadly, it seems there are only 30-ish people waiting for that flight. That concerned me. Although typically I'm over in Continental's concourse, across from the Cattlecars. And it's almost always a Friday nite/Saturday early AM to Sunday nite/early Monday AM trip for me... not the heaviest travel time around (although good luck getting a seat on those CO ERJ's sometimes!)

Here's a question... any chance of a US E70 getting a product like Economy Plus on UA? That's some nice flying right there.  Smile

There is a difference between Republic Airlines and Republic Airways Holdings.

RAH is the holding company which owns and operates Chautauqua Airlines, Shuttle America and Republic Airlines.

Chautauqua operates the ERJ-135 and ERJ-145 for Delta, ERJ-140 for American, and the ERJ-145 for both United and US Airways.

Shuttle America operates the Embraer 170 for Delta and United.

Republic Airlines operates the Embraer 170 for US Airways.

CMH is a maintenance base for both Chautauqua Airlines and Shuttle America for all the ERJs and E-170s at CHQ and S5.

As far as I'm aware, the PIT expansion is for Republic Airlines, and not the company as a whole. Which is why I'm not expecting us (Shuttle America, where I'm a Flight Attendant) to do much if any PIT flying in the near future. Its not critical or necessary.
