Hello Everyone
What do you think of TWA? Is there service good? I was thinking about flying them for the first time and wanted to see what your opinions were.

TWA is my favorite airline. I think there service is great and they have awesome planes. Hope this helps.

TWA is good airline to fly, lots of there planes are older such as the DC-9's and the 727's but is still a good ride. I fly them often and havent had to much trouble with planes arriving late and such. Im flying them next week well see how good it is this time. Keep informed on the machinists strike that is looming over their heads there is currently a 4 week injunction it. If the airline strikes this could spell the end of the TWA as we know them today....

If thats the case, then why are airlines still using such an unsafe airline to fly for the public if thats what you think? Why would the FAA let DC-9s fly with passangers then?!?!?!?

The valujet was because of the canasters, not the maunfacture.
The DC-9 is one of the best airliners ever built, with its quilty, avalibilty, safty-record on the plane (not inculding outside factors like pilot error), and best engine ever built, the JT8D.
And still being built from Pratt & Witney!!!

The A320 is better, because its newer. The cost buying them for low-fare airlines are not cheap.

Just my view of the a/c.

As a DC9 Pilot for another carrier I take GREAT issue with United #52's rediculous response.

The DC9 is a classic airliner whose line has been expanded into many varients, the most recent of which is the Boeing 717. Although the ol' DC9-30s are louder than SOME airplanes today they are still some of the most quiet, nicest flying, most well designed airplanes in the sky today. Good old fashioned mechanical controls (only hydraulic control is the rudder) steer this majestic looking beauty through the sky. Low maintenance cost, high speed, comfort, and efficiency. She's no Airbus, but she is a safe, comfortable, fast, and reliable addition to any airline's fleet. TWA, Northwest, US Airways, Midwest Express, AirTran, Airborne Express, Spirit Airlines.

I am sorry to disrespect the DC9, I mean, it must have been a good plane back in the 1970s and stuff, but I was born in 1982, in the dawn of computerized commercial aviation. The 767 was just coming on to the scene. When I was in kindergarten, the A320 started flight test, and as I type this, the Seventh Wonder (777) is becoming increasingly popular. I am sorry, but the planes from the earlier time periods just seem old & tired to me. As I became more knowledgeable about aviation, United was rolling in the A320s and 777s and 747-400s, so I am sort of stuck with the newer generation planes. Have you though of switching to something a little newer, no offense?

First of all, I've only heard good things about TWA in recent years. They've really upgraded their fleet, and they've won several awards- I think the J.D. Powers and Associates. The only concern would be the machinist thing mentioned earlier.

Second, the DC-9 issue. From a passenger view point I'd have to side with United #52. I would much rather fly in a newer aircraft. However, from an aviation view point, Airways DC-9 gets my vote.

P.S.

Come on- how much United #52 isn't that much younger than you, Airways DC9.
9 years at most :)

What do you mean that you wont argue with a 16 year old about the merits of an aircraft? While you may have an attachment to your aircraft, which is definitely one of the greatest american planes, there is no doubt which plane is better to fly in. The newer seats, more space, quieter engines, and video screens truly enhance the experience.

Age doesn't make an airliner bad in any way if it is maintained properly. And I don't know what you mean by DC-9s falling apart, but once again, if maintained well, they most certainly are not falling apart any time soon. The DC-9 in Douglas fashion is an extremely reliable, durable, and rugged airplane. As for the width of the cabin, most see it as an advantage that it is narrower then a 737 or A320 and appreciate the 2-3 seating as compared to the 3-3 seating on a 737 or A320. By the way, there are also hush kits available for DC-9s to make them less noisy.

While i love to stand on theground and watch airplanes take off and land,flying in them is a total different story. I like DC-9,and its cousin the MD88 inside seat configaration. There is only ONE middle seat across the rows,so there is a 4 in 5 chance you have a window or an aisle. Its my personal opinion,on why AA is popular with business travelers,because of their MD80s.

By the way,if you do your research into aircraft maintenance,A,B,C,D checks,you will see that theoretically a plane can fly 20,30,40,years and still be like new. The problem is that it is more expensive to do maintenanance on them. But lets look at from the airline perspective.....A 20 year old or more plane is PAID FOR! While we like new aircraft,just like new cars,they have payments,and older aircraft becomes a cash cow! The only thing the airline pays for is the crew and maintenance. All those AA MD80s bought back in the early 80s should be nearly paid for..ching,ching. Something to think about before you go bashing older aircraft.

The MD-80's 2-3 seating really is great. It is so much more comfortable when the plane is crowded, because there is less chance of getting a middle seat. This is even more important when you fly stand-by and can't request a seat assignment in advance! Last Friday I was in an AA MD-82 ORD-SAN, and it had the new interior. This particualr aircraft was manufactured in 1983, but it looked brand new on the inside, due to the fact that not only seats were replaced, but also carpets, sidewalls, bulkheads, and everything else. The average passenger wouldn't even know that he was on a 16 year old airplane. I really don't think that aircraft age determines the quality of the aircraft. The DC-9/MD-80 is a great bird!
