It seems that the TXL route is going well for QR, there is a picture of an A332 replacing the regular A319LR last Sunday. I looked at their timetable at their homepage and the next two Sundays will also be with the A332. That is really nice, because A330s are rare at TXL.

That's excellent to see and hear, especially together with the news that Air China also plans to serve Berlin in the near future with the A330. I'll have to try to get out some weekend to get photos.

It sure is great to see QR sending widebodies to TXL

Correct, QR are using the 332 on a trial period to the German capital. (among other reasons) If a success, then they will begin future services (my guesses late 2006/early 2007) with the A332 or A300.

QR may also bring back the A300/A332 during the world cup period to cope with increased demand.

I hope the best for TXL and widebodies

Rob!

That being one of the other reasons  Wink

They are also using the opportunity to test the 332 for TXL services  Smile

that is at least the official QR reason.

btw what will they test exactly? or what is necessary to test?

but good luck for TXL that they will upgrade to a widebody for the regular service.

Things such as crews, gates, equipment. It's a test between TXL and QR. Also loads!

Obvisouly we know that TXL can currently handle widebodies, but QR is carry out its own tests also  Smile

From where would you take them? Visitor's platform or somewhere around the airport?

OK, that would explain it.

It can handle A332 and A333. I'm not sure about 747, A346, or 773. The test should be passed, the question is simply whether there is enough demand for a larger aircraft.

As with other destinations, QR starts small in secondary markets and build up a destination before bringing in larger equipment. TXL is perfectly capable of handling A330/A300. There is no reason to "test" the airport.... QR should rather look at their own hub in what a mess it is.... no space for anything. Very often aircraft need to be diverted to nearby airports (BAH) due to a lack of parking positions @ Doha.....

.....up there with the best!

Hi Thorben,

I usually shoot from the west side of the field, just south of the ILS. Admittedly I'm an amateur in terms of aviation photography but if you're interested, you can see some of my photos at myaviation.net. I actually just got back from a spotting trip this morning and was thrilled to catch the Polish government Tu-154 on approach. I'll upload some photos of it tonight.

Interesting, I've been going to that place for 20 years now, just been there last Saturday. Normally I stand right under the planes going to the northern runway. I took pictures once but my camera is simply not good enough.
