A flight engineer for BG once told me that the DC-10-30 is not capable of flying DAC-LHR non-stop (thus having all west-bound European routes stop at DXB or JED) but I really wondered if that was the case.

Airport details:

Runway length
Zia Airport's runway is 10,498ft. Elevation AMSL 126 ft (38.4m).

Elevation
Elevation AMSL 126 ft (38.4 m) (which I find quite high for Dhaka, especially because Dhaka is just above sea level.

Distance

(of course, the flight routing would most likely be longer going through more established ATC routes:

MUC (48°21'14"N 11°47'10"E) LHR (51°28'39"N 00°27'41"W) 587 mi
Total: 5757 mi

With this info, can a flight planner / engineer tell us if the DC-10-30ER can fly non-stop from Dhaka to London?

Best,

Wasim / Planemannyc

To make it simple, sure the aircraft can go nonstop, however the question is more of what type of payload you are looking at.

DAC-LHR is almost 5000miles on a great circle routing, longer if you cannot secure all the overflight rights and must take the longer route as you made mention.

So the answer to your question is yes, but with a restricted payload likely making the service uneconomical.

I have been on Biman DC-10-30ER from LHR to DAC but not DAC to LHR. frankly I think the dc10 series are cash cow and it should be put down gently and replace it with 772 or a343

Ha small correction a "cash cow" is generally refered to as something that makes money on a regular basis. I think you might have meant "money pit"?

Correct the aircraft could easily make it nonstop. From that field elevation however the ride would be very quiet since there would be little or no pax or cargo onboard. We have the same problem coming out of Quito on our DC10's. Going to Miami, we can carry either fuel or cargo. So naturally we will put on the cargo and hop down to Guyaquil at sea level for the fuel.
