Song was such a great idea. Above & beyond B6 & the like, IMHO. Even if DL promises to integrate elements of this type service into their mainline fleet, it'll still be diluted at best.

Finally made it to an airline mecca!

And song in the city? (still have promo materials from them at home). I pretty much made a trip to NYC to visit them. That was one of the coolest airline related things ever.

Song was a great experiment and I'm glad to see/hope I see a lot of these 'experiments' transferred back into mainline Delta.

It's amazing what a small group of people with built-up passion can do to create an atmosphere vastly different from the majority today. Song brought back a little sense of style to the American skies and hopefully we'll see the same back on the Delta side.

Here's to all the employees who took a chance!

Thanks for all the positive replies! Song was and for that matter still is a wonderful airline! What other elements are going to be brought in from Song into Delta besides the PTV's on their 75's? Thanks in adv!

Nice video. Agree -- Song is the best domestic product, hands down. It's a shame to see it go, but I hope DL learns from the experiment.

I had the good fortune of flying Song many times over the last several years (so much so that one F/A in particular knew me from my JFK-FLL flights!)

Thanks to all who made it so great -- I'll continue to choose DL when possible, but it sure won't be the same.

Wow, cool video.

I took(possibly my last) Song flight just last week on my way to SEA for the final Spirit of Delta flight. Was seated in 4C from JFK-SEA, and boy, was that flight packed. The menu had wonderful options(which I partook in) and checked out Animal Planet and the History Channel most of the time. When I decided for a nap, I made up a playlist, but realized, its hard to sleep to the Beastie Boys "Paul Revere", so I switched to something a little lighter. I eventually got up to use the lav and while waiting, ran into a fellow a.netter SongStar, who was working the flight. Had a great time talking with him and the other F/A's, so much that I almost felt I was imposing on them at times. I finally forced myself back to my seat during a little light turbulence and back to the entertainment. The captain came on to announce that due to the headwinds, it would take a little longer to get to Seattle, but not to worry, as we have plenty of fuel to make it without stopping, unlike some "other" NYC airlines that have to make fuel stops. There was quite a chuckle from the back of the plane upon that announcement. We arrived into SEA before I was really ready for the flight to be over, but I guess all things must come to an end.

Not sure if I'll be able to squeeze in another Song flight before May, but I can only hope the entire Song experience is transferred to mainline.

Just curious as to why is Song merging with Delta mainline?

I understand Delta is in Chapter 11 but just doesnt make any sense to merge a LOW cost carrier with the mainline?

Info. would be great....  Wink

Simply put, Songs costs were much lower than DL mainline and it was a much better product. Everything happening with Song was always eventually being transferred to mainline, so it was decided to turn mainline into Song, basically, but keep the Delta brand. No sense in running 2 airlines that are doing the exact same thing, that would be a waste of money. So everything that is Delta is being turned into what Song is, including IFE, seats, pitch, amenities, etc. There is even a LOT of talk of Buy On Board coming back! Hopefully, the IFE coming to the 767's and 738's happens very quickly, but that has yet to be completely worked out.

I dont think it was an experiment and i think it is a bad idea to merge it with delta. They should have added first class to the Song planes and keep it as song.
Song is more a marketing tool than just a plane with PTV. Delta will be taking just the planes with PTV but the whole components that make Song the best domestic airline most likely will not move over.
They won't be able to be as creative with Delta as they are with Song. The whole good and friendly attitude of the song F/A and gate crew were inspired and motivated by the whole atmosphere created by the whole package that makes song. (the uniforms, the relaxed atmosphere, the attentive attitude, the, the record label, the smart ads, the smart promotions, etc)
Now, a 757 with PTV, will just be a regular DL flight with additional entertainment.

One of the tools i noticed that DL/song was not using is the interactive features of their IFE/PTV system. They have a lot of opportunities to use it for more revenue generating options, like shopping, advertising, even gambling, etc.

I switched to DL/Skyteam mainly because of Song, i have taken many many flights on Song and i really hate seeing it go. I took my last song flights a few weeks ago and i asked one of the F/A if they were moving over the extensive gourment menu and drinks for BOB and she didnt have a clue. nobody knows. So with that gone, it is on less song element that would dissapear. The mood might dissapear as well and the emotional attachament to the product (essential marketing goal) will dissapear as well.
If they allow song to take more Delta routes with a first class cabin and all the elite priveleges of skymiles, then it would have continued to be the best product out there for domestic flights, as Song, not DL.

Most of these employees originally came from DL. This is the DL attitude and service. These same people will now be working for DL. Except for the name and colors, Song is not going anywhere. Song worked so well that DL has decided convert mainline into Song.

Nice video. I'm glad I got to fly Song while they were still around, especially under the circumstances that got me on the flight! My mom & I took a bump in DAB & after (deliberately  Wink) mentioning that I wanted to try Song, the gate agent was happy to re-route us out of MCO to CMH via BOS, especially since the next time we could get out of DAB was 7pm & it was 9am then.

At least Song's not going away totally. I'm looking forward to seeing the Song planes in DL's mainline fleet soon.

SS - make sure you bring the song-ness back to the MotherShip. Wouldn't want the personality lost.

And for everyone else, I'm sure SongStar can testify, if "Cassi's Guide to Travel" is any indication, you'll see the attitude and fun of Song is spreading through the DL blood. It's a fun read.

I looooooved Song! I am so sorry to see it going away!
Everything about it was wonderful from the food to the interior. The service was always wonderful too! I loved the atmosphere on board!
I ADORE the uniforms too! One of the sharpest looking groups in the sky! I always envied the Kate Spade uniforms and the carry on's as I sat there in my not so classy looking WN shorts and polo shirt! LOL!
I intend on getting my hands on a set of Song F/A wings one day to add to my collection! Good stuff!

Take care!
