Hello everyone,

What local or International airlines that dont have regular scheduled flights to your city visited your local Airport? In another word, Are there any International or local airlines that at one time landed at airports that don't normally host them?

Thanks

IB A340-600 - brining Real Madrid footall players

Back in the summer of 01, we had a QF 747-400 divert to RDU do to TSTMS in both the NY and DC Metro areas. I was working in the JI ramp tower, and I thought I was loosing my mind when I saw a QF 747 taxiing out of the corner of my eye.

It sat on the ramp for about 6 hours along with multiple other diversions, the QF crew timed out, and they had to LearJet in a crew from NYC to continue the flight on to JFK. One of the worst weather days I remember.

Interestingly enough, it also happened to be AA's first day of RDU-LGW service with the 777...

Here's a small list of very odd airlines at SJO and LIR (those are fairly recent visitors):
  • KE 747-400 (SJO, Presidential charter)
  • AR 747-200B (SJO, Presidential charter)
  • EQ 727-200 (SJO, Diplomatic charter)
  • S3 727-200 (SJO, Diplomatic charter I believe, though I'm not sure)
  • K4 (Kalitta) 747-100 (SJO, bringing an engine for a stranded CO 757, there was another occasion where a K4 aircraft recently came down to LIR and then returned to EWR through SJO)
  • Antonov AN-124 Ruslan (LIR, airline unknown AFAIK, bringing a new engine for a stranded DL 757)
  • AY MD-11 (LIR, service that was discontinued after 1998, I was never aware this flight ever existed until I was told of it, I would be interested in schedule, flightnumber and flightplan for this one)
  • BA DC-10/777 (SJO, service that was discontinued)
  • Spanish Air Force A310 (Royal and Diplomatic Flight)
  • LM (Livingston) A330 (SJO, service that was discontinued)
  • Colombian Air Force BBJ (Diplomatic Flight)
  • AQ 737-200 (SJO, maintenance)
  • Aerogal 737-200 (SJO, charter flight)
  • TZ 737-800 (LIR, charter flight)
  • Tikal Jets DC-9-50 (SJO, football/soccer charter)
And I believe there was once a state visit by Bill Clinton here in Costa Rica a few years ago, so it's safe to say Air Force One has come down here at least once.

MAN's location means it tends to get a few diversions whenever LGW or LHR are fogbound, so among others, NW and UA have been visiting now and again throughout the winter.

Last flight: DFW-LGW/AA/763. Next flight: MAN-CDG/AF/A319.

Last summer I was very surprised to see a Finnair 757 landing at YXU (London, ON) a few hours after the AF A340 crash closed YYZ. Quite a rare bird for an airport that normally sees only regional traffic.

You know the gear is up and locked when it takes full throttle to taxi to the terminal.

At BDL, we're prone to getting diversions from EWR, JFK, and sometimes BOS. I recall seeing BA, AF and LY here, for example.

We're also periodically visited by AN-124's. Gotta love it when they're in town.
