A330 In Mexicana Video

Posted (8 years 6 months 2 weeks 4 days ago) and read 4490 times:

Last weekend I had the chance of "finally" sample MX's awarded business class long haul service on MX's sole B767 routing MEX-EZE. (Trip report later in the correponding section).

While watching the newly produced security briefing video in several other MX's flights, I always paid attention to the fact that the plane showed always was the actual type I was flying. That is why I could not help to notice that in the case of this flight the plane showed was not a B767 but an A330. (sleek widebody, two engines, winglets), and as we all know, Mexicana does not have (still) any 330.

Any thoughts, or should I say ....hopes?

Regards.

Let's hope that's because they are seriously thinking about getting A330's in a near future to replace the B 767, and didn't want to make a video with a plane they wouldn't use too long, but using the "definitive" one.

I really hope this could be true... it would sound logical to me, they have a complete Airbus fleet (except for the B767).

Yes, I think they are going to move towards the A330 for sure.

To me, the safety video is conveying this message perfectly well !

BA0242, welcome to the a.net forums... Looking forward to learning from what you have to say about aviation... the craze we all suffer from here !!!

And the 757 but it´ll be replaced also (hopefully for the A321, but w&b restrictions keep that aircraft away from MX fleet; at least for now).

It´s a good way to start showing the passengers or getting them used to the new aircraft.....

I really hope MX does not get rid of the 757, first of all its a much better plane suited for Hot and High situations, and they in my view are one of the best looking planes.

now back on topic, a fleet of 4 A330, would be great for high density routes and long range, but A340 left by Air Canada would be even better for the "orient" routes that have been floating around in rumors....anyway I hope MX gets wide aisles and return to "azteca de Oro" paint Scheme...!!

Keeping fingers crossed...

Indeed it´s a great performer, but it´s getting to expensive to maintain, now is only used on really high density routes or with too much weight to take.

So, how many 757's does MX currently operate? They fly one daily MEX-JFK-MEX, one daily MEX-CCS-MEX, and I am sure they fly a lot to LAX and ORD from MEX and, perhaps, from other Mexican cities, right?

I took the 757 in February in flight MX0001 JFK-MEX and it still had 20 business class seats (and the business cabin was 100% full, whereas the coach cabin was not). Is MX still thinking of reducing the number of business seats?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

That would be excellent, the A321 is a great bird! Futhermore, I definetly think it would be much less expensive to operate for MX than the 757s.
Don't you think?

In my opinion, the thing with the A321 is that it only has a chance to be ordered by MX if MX decides to build a mini-hub at CUN. With a few A321's based out of CUN, MX would be able to serve leisure passengers from MEX and the U.S. East Coast traveling to Cancún and the Mayan Riviera quite effectively.

They tend to fly the most busy of the several daily flights on the following routes: GDL-SJC, GDL-LAX, MEX-LAX.

I just don't think there's any other type of bird right now that fills the need so well for Mexicana.

What do you mean with "w&b" ? Maybe hot&high/weight ??? MX already has the A320, right ? Several A32S pilots here say the A321 has a better airfield performance than the A320, so this shouldn´t be a problem.

My booking for sunday has the B757 as the aircraft for my roundtrip MEX-BOG-MEX. Since the aircraft spends the night in BOG, one is used exclusively for this route.

Mexicana doesn't send the 757s to ORD anymore.  frown  Its all airbus, A319s and A320s to MEX.

Many years ago I walked into a Swissair office in Zurich and noticed a poster of an A320 in SR colours. Since no announcement had then been made about an MD-80 replacement it seemed, er, premature but very soon it indeed came to pass. Fingers crossed for Mexicana!

Interesting. I understand, though, that the 757 to BOG is the exception rather than the rule, as this route is mainly flown with A319's. I guess there is significant demand to BOG and that AR and its really low fares has not made a dent on MX's loads.

So, I ask again, how many 757's does MX have?

Good question, MEX and GDL would be the most popular. MX has 4X daily ORD-MEX, 2x daily ORD-GDL. The service to MEX is flown by A319/A320. Flights to GDL have the A320. But the increase in flights between ORD-MEX has to do with AA codeshare.

I can probably stick MLM as a popular route since it sees A320 service some days. MTY sees daily A320 service. The only A318 flight being operated at the moment is ORD-ZCL. Lately MX has been flying ORD-BJX, I dont know if this is a seasonal destination.

Indeed it has a great performance at sea level but at MEX the things are really different (even the 757/767 get´s a hell of restriction), the A321 can suit really well some MX needs, but departing MEX it´s really hard for it, even for the -200.

Routes operated in 757:
MEX-JFK/CCS/SJO/BOG and HAV.
ORD is served mainly with A320´s, but MX806/807 MEX-ZCL-ORD-ZCL-MEX it´s operated in A318 (lifting 100pax and 3.5tons of bags).
MTY we are used to the A318, only fridays we see the A319 and the A320 as the loads got really high.

When I booked my flight, I originally did so on AR, since I wanted to fly the A310 to BOG. Unfortunately my travel agency got the strike info and cancelled my AR flight and rebooked me on MX. The price went up from $500 to $800 tax included. My travel agent told me that I am the only crazy employee trying to book AR, they only send people on MX and AV...

As some of us have stated before, it is becoming a regular practice for MX to indiscrimnitaley upgrade just to fill up the front cabin. Even on my MEX-EZE flight where a restricted C fare is up to $1800 usd one way, they were bringing people from coach even when they were already seated and doors closed, just to fill 3 empty seats. I did not mind it (because I had paid the lowest mex-e-saver fare of just US$620 r/t and got upgraded because of my MEX *I status  Smile  Smile  Smile ), but you should've seen the face and other languaje expressions of this guy seated next to me.......

Quoting EddieDude (Reply 6):
Is MX still thinking of reducing the number of business seats?

I had not been on a MX B757 since 2002, and back then, there were only 12 seats in C. Great legroom. I was surprised when they cramped 8 more seats.

BTW, I really hope that in case of MXA330 becomes a sweet reality, they consider so keep the legroom they have onboard de B767, both in Y and C. And let me tell you, those "clase ejecutiva" seats may be old and lacking of high tech gizmos, but they are really comfortable and recline to a full 180. And there is still space to walk through without waking up your seatmate.

Not anymore, as there is a new order not to fill Ejecutiva, as there was a missunderstanding of the first order to fill up ejecutiva, now the upgrades are only to elegible passengers, also you can buy your upgrade in the airport at check in for $25USD for national flights ($500 MEX-EZE) one way trip, so you´ll see again empty ejecutiva seats.

I am sure MX would be able to provide a truly outstanding First Class service, but unfortunately First Class is a dying animal. I guess if MX gets widebody Airbuses for transoceanic flights, they will be configured with quite large Business Class cabins that will, in practice, be a hybrid between F and C.

If you pay attention on the safety cards of MXA airbuses the plane is a B737!!! instead of a real Airbus, so are you going to think that MXA is nearly to buy B737 NGs? please. The guys that made the animated safety demo don't know anything about airliners, they just put a twin engine widebody with eight doors and that's all, as well as the MXA flight safety department, they don't care if it's a real B767 or A330,A300,A310, etc. The only goal on this video is a safety demonstration, not to show to the passengers the future intentions of the airline.
