According to the Italian online newspaper "corriere.it", a passenger left his shoes near the security checkpoint (metal detector) and ran away. A smart thing to do ...

This is the biggest problem in airports today. When a breach such as this occurs, they have to "dump" the terminal and re-screen everyone. They should hang the shoeless person.

And the Italian's are first to report this.

That was my first thought as well.

After reading better, I've seen that it was actually reported on CNN - the TV station, not the web site. The Italians just copied it.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The Delta terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York City was evacuated Friday after a man who had been targeted for additional security screening left the screening area, the Transportation Security Administration said.

"TSA Security and Port Authority Police are searching for him now," TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis said. "He's going to have to come out at some point."

The pax musta slipped in during a shift change. This is idiotic.

Apparently they're hoping to get flights back in the air by 7:00 PM.

I can only imagine what kind of mess this is causing -- Friday afternoon @ LGA on a good is hectic enough!

Supposedly his shoes tested positive on a preliminary examination for traces of explosives. Hence the brouhaha.

I'm grateful I returned yesterday from Atlanta to LaGuardia. That is surely going to be a mess. The story seems to get less clear with time. Some stations now reporting the person took their shoes while others say they left them. The only consistent story is someone had a shoe or pair of shoes that set something off.

I got to experience this mess, and that is exactly what I wanted to do!

I was supposed to depart LGA at 1700 and ended up departing at 2100.

It was awful, you should have seen the mad dash when they re-opened.
