Why does it cost so much more to fly into ORD than MDW? (cle-ord $170)(cle-mdw $88)

Probably because of higher landing fees, as well as the fact that few "discount" carriers such as Southwest serve O'Hare. They've all chosen to go to Midway, which is closer to the city and a little more convenient.

Also, I think that ORD market has leveled on $170-$250 range for regular advance purchases on crosscontinental flights, and $350 on peak times. I've never seen round trip tickets from/to ORD below this line.
