Great ad in the newest FL ticket jacket....aimed at WN? I think so.
Below that is a route map which shows the nonstop cities served from MDW: MSP,BOS,EWR,DFW,ATL,MCO,and SRQ.
The airline will continue its growth at MDW as long as new gates become available.
The sky is the limit I think for FL at MDW. Cheap Business Class flights, new planes, and low fares. I think FL and WN will complement each other nicely in the market.

If it is a dig at WN it's a small one, WN flies nonstop all over the place out of MDW.

I hope FL has better luck at MDW than TZ did. I think the demand of those in charge to require 1000 seats per day per gate can often push an airline to add unprofitable routes. That may have been what killed ATA. At least if you believe the crap the Indy Star publishes.

Nice Dig. Taking a WN positive perception and turn it into a negative.

There is the perception part. It leads you to believe FL is better, when actually it is not.

Airtran has been making its presence at MDW by showing commercials on the local tv and radio stations. First time I see FL commercials here in Chicago. In May they will open DFW and CLT, and will have a total of 32 fligths by then. Its getting tougher finding gate space at MDW. If gates A4A and A4B were some how made a little wider to place some seating some airlines probably would be committed to moving into those two gates.
Hope to see Airtran grow at MDW, there are some routes that they can take advantage of, like MDW-SFO, since there will be no one on that route once ATA drops it.

If you look at the routes, none of the airports are served by SWA except MCO (i said airports, not cities).
So a better thing to say is "Fly an airline that actually takes you to these airports."
Otherwise, you are more likely to have to stop and change planes flying on Air tran through ATL then you to stop or change planes on Southwest.

But have you seen there ramp agents there, they all worked for TZ and Chicago Express, not the best pick of the bunch....Plus I would never work for Airtran at MDW, working for OH a MDW was enough....

Oh yes, we all know that FL has so many more n/s destinations at MDW compared to WN.
You know I was thinking with little overlap, WN should start a codeshare at MDW with FL.. FL can get the WN passengers to all the cities WN doesn't fly to, and vise versa out of MDW. With MDW fairly centrally located in the U.S. and in a good place for changing planes from the west/midwest to the east coast, it would seem like it would work. Now the other question is would WN be interested?

That's probably about as likely as an AirTran/Delta ATL codeshare.

Considering they already have a codeshare with ATA, it really isnt THAT far fetched, if SWA had chosen FL over ATA.
Quoting Flyinryan99 (Reply 9):
Reminds me of the ad for ATA when I worked there... "Nonstops, not Nine Stops"
hahaha oh thats a great ad from ATA.

Airtran is not a codeshare with Delta, only NW and CO...We used to sell airtran seats when they were sold out.....

To add to that, CLT and DFW will be added this summer. In addition, rumours are they will announce MIA and SFO - both 2x daily - sooner than later. They both lack (or will lack, in the case of SFO, as ATA is pulling out) non-stops to Midway, despite being major airports and major markets to Chicago.

Mark, MDW-MIA would be a nice route to see, and i'd imagine it'd be very successful.
I flew PA2/KW on that route back in '97....Carnival 72S both ways...about 70 pax on both flights....full meals....and lengthy delays on both flights.

I wonder if MIA is one of the east coast cities the CEO was talking about adding out of IND? I think there is like only 1x to MIA with AA from here. Is MIA big on the FL radar?

Me too. I'm anxiously awaiting it because I fly between Miami and Chicago at least monthly and MIA-MDW is my perferred routing. Lately I've been dealing with MIA-ORD flights, and O'Hare is a pain. When ATA was at MIA, they were controlling roughly 30% of the local MIA-CHI market.

AA is 2x daily, year-round on MIA-IND. I doubt FL is looking at adding the route, though.

Last I checked AA was twice daily with a 738 and a ERJ

I just flew MDW-MSP yesterday and it was great. The plane was packed and they are adding a 5th nonstop in May. I was so disappointed when ATA pulled only to be relieved that AirTran announced they would fly it a couple weeks after. They are also keeping the airfares extremely low on the MSP-CHI market.
