As Air France and Lufthansa have pulled out of Kuala Lumpur - why doesn't Air Outre-Mer and LTU fly into Kuala Lumpur instead. LTU frequently flies into Langkawi as a charter carrier - don't these airlines also operate scheduled routes....I know AOM used to fly to Sydney until recently.

Air Outre Mer passengers fly via Zurich on Malaysia Airlines to Kuala Lumpur (Longhaul Hub for the SAir Group in Europe). When there's a market they will surely open the route.

But for the moment you can forget LTU or AOM (now Air Liberte) doing that as all plans for new routes have been suspended because of intense restructuring.

Since when did Air France and Lufthansa pulled out of KUL? I think it's strange as I've just heard that KLM is going to fly AMS-KUL daily.

As for LTU. They aren't alligned with LH (they're alligned with SAirGroup). I would think thet Condor would have taken over the FRA-KUL route if LH wanted to continue service to Malaysia

Air France pulled out of Kuala Lumpur when it took over the KUL route from UTA as UTA was absorbed in the early 1990s. AF did fly a 747-300 to KUL for only a few months after UTA's demise.

Lufthansa pulled out of KUL shortly after it withdrew from Australia. LH was flying an A340 nonstop thrice weekly from Frankfurt until last year when SQ was almost part of STAR - and as SQ became a member of STAR - LH now operates a connection to KUL on an SQ aircraft from Singapore...BAD idea - I can't think of anyone wishing to fly to KUL who is now happy transferring at Changi other than if they specifically choose to fly SQ. Interestingly LH used to fly FRA-DXB-KUL-MEL-SYD in the 1980s...now LH doesn't serve any of those points except for Dubai - SAD indeed.

KLM is keen to make KUL its Asian hub. Working with MAS has been a happy relationship and Northwest is also keen to make more use of KUL - KLM does indeed plan to fly daily from Amsterdam to provide a double-daily service with MAS.
