Flying between San Juan and St Maarten 11Nov-18Nov. We'll probably fly American Eagle because I feel a little uneasy with upstart airline Caribbean Sun. We had a bad experience flying ALM a few years ago between SJU and Curacao, and fortunately American Eagle rescued us.
How's the ride between San Juan and St Maarten? Do the flights generally run on-time?
What fare can we expect to pay in November? The lowest fare in Expedia/Travelocity/Orbitz/AA.com is $267 roundtrip. That seems steep.

Caribbean Sun/Star has been in existence since the beginning of the millenium. If you want peace of mind (not sure why you want to anyway, I've heard positive comments about ZQ's flights) flying AA Eagle, then you will have to pay a premium.

The reason I feel a little uneasy about CS is because of many bad experiences related to me about intra-Caribbean airlines, and ALM in particular. ALM cancelled our flights in both directions SJU-CUR-SJU a few years ago, and though everything turned out fine we still lost two days of vacation. It's reasonable to prefer flying a more reliable carrier like AE.

Quoting Tallguy14 (Reply 7): One last question...does the roundtrip airfare ever dip below $250 roundtrip? Do AA, 8B/ZQ ever have fare sales?
I went to SJU in December and was thinking about taking a hop to SXM. AE was charging $185 r/t including taxes for the flight. This was 2 weeks before Christmas when travel slows slightly. As you get close to Thanksgiving holidays and the winter surge in travel I would imagine prices rise.
I've occasionally seen NetSAAver fares for about $99 round-trip, but that won't work for you, since it's fairly last minute. It's worth saying again that the dates you're traveling are the prime dates for those with time shares, and people book way in advance for that, since they know their weeks. If you don't pick up something a couple of months in advance, you could end up spending $400+ for the round-trip at that time of year.
