In the article they say that PK plans to lease 4 additionals 777s, 3 ATRs and 3 310Fs. Also they say that they are going to replace their 737s and 310s by 2010 and 2011.

Thank you for the link and the information Cabso1 As the information quotes Government officials I feel the report is most likely quite accurate. That leads to two points of interest from my perspective;
1: Confirmation that PIA will increase their 777 fleet to 12
2: No mention of the 748I. There were reports emanating before the Asian Aerospace Show recently held in Singapore that PIA could be a candidate for this model.
Does this mean we can put to rest those reports and assume PIA are not interested in the 748I?
Any further information or clarification would be appreciated.

Well, PanAm_DC10, let me put it to you this way. Pakistani government officials can never be quoted on their word. I am sure any Pakistani person could confirm that. Only when a contract is drawn up, will it be a final decision. I am not aware of the 748 rumours as of yet, but chances are that those were and still remain rumours.

Yes Boeing have officially approached Air India and PIA concerning the B 748...and Jet Airways of India too !!!
Quoting PanAm_DC10 (Reply 1): 1: Confirmation that PIA will increase their 777 fleet to 12
This has been mentioned by their current Chairman Mr Kirmani many times for nearly 4 months now and today finally it gets officially confirmed. But no one really knows whats the break up of these B 777s to be leased in except for the fact that ONE has confirmed to be a B 772ER leased in from ILFC. The remaining 3 no one knows of !

there are still very strong rumours that they will go with the 747-8I...
they will be adding another 777-200LR to their fleet soon, which will allow them to have YYZ-Pakistan 2x/weekly, and 1-2x/weekly for their JFK-Pakistan route, with the other days having a stop in the United Kingdom.....
they are in the process of getting 773's also.......possibly to replace their ancient 742's and 743's and for some route expansion....LAX is high on that list....
the 747-8's would work very well for them on some routes...such as JFK (the days that they won't fly nonstop to Pakistan)
they will also probably get some newer 737's also..........
besides a few ATR's and a few A310F's.........PK will become basically an all-Boeing fleet..........

Quoting Cabso1 (Thread starter): BTW I saw their 772LR in KHI, it is one big aircraft.
Not to be Debbie Downer.... The 772LR is the same size in dimensions as the 772ER. I think their is one difference and its the blended winglets witch adds 13ft. on the wingspan like the 773ER.

Quoting FCKC (Reply 10): As they plan to replace the 310s by 2010 , probably we will see them ordering 787s very soon.
exactly, I expect PK to be a 787 operator also......
the 787-3 would be perfectly suited for their ISB-PEK-NRT, and ISB-HKG-BKK routes

Great to see our homeland is getting a more and more modern fleet.
This is great news. I hope they get the 787 also. Is the ATR70-500 the latest
airplane they make? It does not have a glass cockpit.

Zindabad........PK has a lot of competition from all sides...especially with EK and ED (AirBlue), as well as from SIN starting flights again to PK...
PK has to distinguish itself...........and they need to do more advertising....
I know people who live in Houston who didn't even know PK flew to their city..

This is so refreshing news especially since the dry 90's as I call it. For some strange reason all this started right about when I left Pakistan. WARNING: I am planing to return, God help us!
Well seriously what I would now love to see would be for PIA to make lots and lots of money with these new birds, I am sure that is the plan, I am praying they get it done this time and we can all see for ourselves the same PIA of the old times, the times of which many (like myself) have only heard of (with few childhood memories).

And I agree, More smart advertising!!!!
I'm very excited, in fact, I'm going to start using PK instead of EK in the near future.....
I primarily use AA/BA, but PK will start to see my business also.

Great news for PIA. By the way, where is their new 772ER flying to? I know it did YYZ-Pakistan last week but not sure if that'll be it's primary route.

you mean their -200LR...
yes.........2x/weekly Pakistan-YYZ-Pakistan is their primary route, as well as a Pakistan-JFK-Pakistan......but that is only for a coupe of days a week (JFK is 5x/weekly)..the rest of the time, their flights to JFK will be via the United Kingdom....

So it'll be doing YYZ 2X/week and JFK 2X/week! It sure won't be sitting on the ground much!

I recently was invited to the Dinner for the captain's and crew members here at toronto on the 4th of march ( when they brought the very first long haul flight form ISB) ,,,, and there when speaking with cockpit crew i learnt that , Boeing has offereed PIA to take all of their 747's and replace their entire long haul fleet with 777's, they also have plan to start LAX in early jun and Melbourne by September

its 3x weekly to yyz using the LR and their other LR shall come at the end of this month to use 3x weekly to JFK and the remaining two slots will be used by the 743

If that's the case, then it's not doing 2X to JFK like Jacobin777 mentioned because there are only 7 days in a week unfortunately and 5X/week to North America would be pushing it.
Quoting Fiaz (Reply 20): and their other LR shall come at the end of this month
Is this brand spanking new or is it the other test aircraft that Boeing was using?

ok....I got the updates....some correction of mine, and some correction of Fiaz...
YYZ-KHI is 3x/weekly (thats a new one!)....Tuesday/Friday/Sunday with the Friday (Pk-782) flight stopping via ISB and the Tuesday (PK-790) flight stopping via LHE.......the Sunday (PK-784) flight YYZ-KHI is nonstop.
JFK-KHI service is Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sunday.....with the only nonstop flight being JFK-ISB..(PK-724)....then ISB-KHI....
the other flights will be with -200ER (twice weekly), 747-M and 743 for a total of 5x/weekly...
ORD/HOU will still get MAN as well
hope that helps.
and I think its the 2nd test plane....but I'm not 100% sure on that....

36 Bennett123: Given that they want to introduce the A310F by 2011 and withdraw the passenger A310 by the same date, why not simply convert them.
