While looking at the NWA fleet, one can't help noticing the fact that they are the only major US carrier who don't operate the 767 in any of its variants.
UA, DL, USair, CO, AA all have 767s.
Why did NWA never order the 767? Was it because they were formerly concentrating on Asian routes (as Northwest Orient), and the 767 wasn't suitable for transpacific ops? Or is there some other reason ?

I guess NWA is a typical Hub operator. DC10's and 747 offered the lowest seat mile costs & superior cargo capasity.
Many direct flights to AMS and NAR from all over the US. But not many long haul direct flights over the Atlantic from MSP, DTW and MEM. The A332/333 hasn't changed this strategy and I doubt the 787 will.
NWA ordered the 757-300 for high capasity domestic flights.
