Only in Brazil !
Two weeks ago in Campinas a very interesting history take place at CPQ (Campinas International Airport). A Tam flight to Brasilia, operated with A320, face a overbooking with 14 pax. The plane was full and authorized to push back and start departure procedures when....
Nothing unusual, the flight was authorized by the ACT to start the push back and the Brazilian Army General Francisco Albuquerque, a passenger that arrived late at the check-in (15 minutes and not 1 hour as requested by brazilian authorities) asked for DAC (Brazilian Aeronautical Authorities) to send an order to Tam flight in order it must return to the airport.
Tam personnel so start to ask passengers who is willing to accept some cash (amount not informed) plus hotel + dinner to board on the next day just to give space for the general and his wife.
After 30 minutes of negotiation Tam get two available seats and Mr. Francisco boarded with his wife... and listen a lot of bad words from the other passengers.
This episode has gain a lot of bad publicity for Brazilian Army and Government and also in a country that public people always take advantage of their position, the society is trying to disapprove the lesson given by the main republic general.
New York + Rio de Janeiro = One of the best combinations !

Quoting Ghost77 (Reply 1): In first place nobody onboard should have accepeted JJ's offer
They could have just kicked people off. The last 2 people to check in. I've seen it happen before. Army or government personnel seem to take advantage of their position; why can't they just arrive on time like normal people.
