SkyWest Takes Delivery Of 250th CRJ700

Just got this press info:

St. George, UT, March 14, 2006 – SkyWest Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc. (NASDAQ: SKYW), is proud to mark two milestones on March 14 as it takes delivery of Bombardier’s 250th 70-passenger Canadair Regional Jet. The aircraft will be SkyWest Airlines’ first for partner Delta Air Lines as part of the Delta Connection program.

Some five years after delivering its first CRJ-700, Bombardier will host a formal delivery ceremony for its 250th. The ceremony will take place on March 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time at Bombardier’s Mirabel Facility in Montreal, Quebec.

Eric Christensen, SkyWest, Inc. vice president of planning said, “We highly value our relationship with Bombardier Aerospace. SkyWest Airlines is excited to take this delivery that has meaning for our manufacturer, Delta and ourselves. We look forward to enhancing our excellent Delta Connection service in Salt Lake City and beyond.”

“SkyWest Airlines has been a valued Bombardier customer for more than a decade with orders for 184 Bombardier CRJ-200 and Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jets,” said Steven Ridolfi, president of Bombardier Regional Aircraft. “SkyWest saw the potential of the regional jet in the airplane’s early days, capitalized on it, and did much to prove the regional jet concept to the airline industry. We are enormously proud of the role these aircraft have played in SkyWest’s growth and we are pleased to share the milestone 250th CRJ-700 delivery with this outstanding airline.”

SkyWest Airlines was named the Number One On-Time Mainland Airline in the United States by the Department of Transportation for 2005, 2004 and 2003, years in which they carried more than 40 million passengers combined. System-wide, SkyWest Airlines operates 180 Bombardier Canadair Regional Jets and was the first airline to order the CRJ in 1989. The CRJ-700 has a range of 1,685 nautical miles, a ceiling of 41,000 feet and a normal cruising speed of 515 miles per hour.

I have to admit. I had no idea SkyWest Airliners was that large of an operator.

Skywest Airlines = 1600 daily departures
ASA = 800 daily depratures

Skywest Inc = 2400 daily depratures



We have grown a bit in the past couple of years!

I think those of us who live on the East Coast (especially New England) don't fully appreciate how much flying is done elsewhere. We can comfortably (6hrs or so) drive just about anywhere we need. However, it tain't so in Wild West. I just drove accross country (Sea of Cortez in Mexico to Upstate NY).
Took 5 days. My last day was East Tenesee to Upstate NY. So 4 days spent in the West and Central US!

So, I quite imagine if I lived out West, I'd fly a whole lot more. I really shouldn't be surprised the western carriers are growing so much.

Looking at SkyWest's fleet schedule, they don't have many firm orders left for any CRJ's, and the way CEO Jerry Atkin talks as if the future for SkyWest's United Express and Delta Connection operations will be the acquisition of Embraer E-Jets E-170/175 or E-190/195. I like the E-Jets better than the CRJ's!

Bombardier (BBD) reported in a newsletter last year that SkyWest "reaffirmed" options for 80 more CRJ701s (after ordering all these that they are getting now)... doesn't that mean that they are serious about taking many more aircraft from BBD?

Good to read that the CRJ700 is still in demand, 250 is a respectable number  Smile
Now, if only the CRJ900 could reach the 100-number... (only 38 more orders needed)
