Royal Jordanian Airlines is expected next week to sign a formal agreement to acquire at least seven Embraer 190 regional jets and become the first Middle East operator to take the type.

Good to hear!

They will be used on regional routes to boost connection traffic at Amman  Smile

Seems they are trying to boost regional traffic, seems a good strategy when on the verge of joining OneWorld  Smile

All the best to RJ  Smile

Any news on the long haul fleet developments?

That is great news. E190s will look great in that livery. It would be great if they go for the 787 to replace the 310s.

regional jets

E190 is NOT a regional jet by no means....

Those E190's will look AWESOME in the RJ livery. Of course, not NEARLY close to our E190's but somewhat close....  Wink

Good to see that Royal Jordanian will be the 2nd airline in the Middle East after Saudi Arabian Airlines to order the ERJ-170/190 series (SV ordered 15 ERJ-170s).

I think MEA will be following suit before the end of the year, either the ERJ-170 or the ERJ-190 or a combination.

They announced in December that they are looking at acquiring regional jets.

It's great to hear that. I suppose they would be used on flights to Greece and Cyprus, too.

MEA definitely needs something smaller than A321. Even if they add some A319, it would be great and that could help the airline to expand its current network.

I don't think the A319 is being considered.

MEA is going to add an Airbus aircraft in 2007 and another in 2008. It's expected one will be an A330 and the other an A321.

Keep in mind that MEA's A321s have a very low density of only 31 Cedar Class seats and 118 Economy Class seats for a total of 149 seats.

It seems that A321 does a good job in MEA right now, but it just makes me wonder if something smaller could help the airline to add more destinations. A319 seemed good enough to me due to fleet commonality, but the fleet of Embraers could also be a good addition.

What is going on with Phoenician Airlines?

I hope to hear a comfirmation soon! Those E-jets will look great in RJ colors!! Hope they go for some 195 as well, not too many of them backlogged so far.

Cheers  Smile
