Very shortly, I would be moving to Quintana Roo, where i would be for at least 4 years. I would really like to start working on, and complete if possible my PPL. Does anyone know of any flight schools that area? I tried looking for info on the net but did not get any. I would be staying in Chetumal, so anything near there or in Quintana Roo in general would be great.

Captaink:
Unfortunately Chetumal lacks completely of a flight school and so the entire State of Quintana Roo (a decent, serious and reliable one I mean). My advise on your particular case would be to save some money -taking advantage of the relatively cheap cost of living there- and dedicate a full month to get your private ticket in a US or Canadian academy.
I don't spit up to the sky afraid of having some back to me, but learning to fly in Mexico can be more expensive, less didactic, fun and unfortunately sometimes not as safe as doing so North of the border. It is not a matter of the schools per-se, some instructors are very passionate about their flying, but DO resent the lack of infrastructure and legal support which makes General Aviation a common and popular activity in the mentioned countries.
For your private pilot license you should be paying around 4,500 USD and expect to have completed it in a month or so, while the same deal in Mexico can rise up to 7,000 USD and a full year of groundschool. On the downside it would be necessary for the student to fill some boring paperwork upon his/her return to Mexico to have the license validated. On either case, do not rush on your decision nor chose a flight school based solely upon how distant it is from where you live.
Feel free to contact me if need further advise.

It's more like 3 months really and get ready for all of the TSA requirements which include sending your fingerprints authorizing them to do a complete screening of who you are and dealing with the new laws that require that you get a student F1 visa which for that you need to prove that you have at least 10,000 dlls in a bank account, I can assure you that it is a REAL pain in the @ss!! (been there done that)

maybe but not completely true,
You can move to a city like Monterrey where you can get your PPL in about 6 to 8 months and you only have to pay 10 monthly payments of 4,700 mxp and that includes all the ground school, books, charts and 40 hours of flight including the flight instructor so the price is not really that different from the USA, the good thing about doing it in the USA is the time factor.

contactme if you want more info!
The time lapse of one month that I mentioned refers to the pure actual training (took me a bit more than a month to complete my PPL despite being grounded 22 days due to 9/11). Truth is that on both scenarios the amount of paperwork to deal with is tremendous and that surely extends the time frame.
But since both of us live in San Pedro, we should meet and discuss that with a cup of coffee and some numbers on the table. Perhaps you could be interested in some choices we are preparing if you aim to continue your training in San Antonio TX. My treat.
