When will Emirates start flights to countrys in the Balkan region?

I am sure flights to BEG, ZAG, and a combined SJJ, LJU flight would be very sucesfull for the airline, regarding the great conections that they are offering to asia and specially Australia the home of a lot immigrants of the balkan region.

What do you think?

regards
Avianca

An interview some time back with the Senior Vice President of EK for Europe and America highlighted PRG, WAW and BEG as their likely initial destinations in South-east Europe, together with ZAG, BUD and BUC.

Nothing was mentioned since.

Wikipedia, which cannot be taken too seriously, does have an interesting comment thorugh which I quote below;

Serbian flag carrier Jat Airways had the right to reject any airline they wanted, and in order to enjoy competition-free market, many airlines were denied landing rights in the country. Some of the known rejected airlines are Adria Airways and Emirates. This agreement would also open the skies to low cost carriers from Europe, such as Ryanair and easyJet.

I would be really be keen to know if true!

how knows, but I can not imagine this, I am sure Serbia is very intrested to get better conections to Asia and Australia and Jat can not provide currently the service....

Well Jat, as many other "flag" carriers who were protected by their Governments, could dictate who gets permissions to serve BEG and who doesn't. DXB is quite lucrative for them and they would not like to loose that. But, expect things to change.

With QR announcing OTP in the coming months, don't be too surprised if EK announces BEG flights in the future, though I cannot see it happening in the next two years or so...

What makes you think this? I would have thought there are many more lucrative markets that EK would serve before the Balkans. They have held back from thes other markets for a shortage of planes and rights. I doubt they will be a big presence in the Balkans any time soon.

I couldn't agree more. There would be demand for several reasons:

- the large number of Eastern European workers in Dubai
- the connections to Australia and NZ.

I would also add SOF to the list. For example - a DXB-SOF-BEG-DXB triangular combo would easily work with an A330-200. They would also be able to get good cargo - electronic goods to import and perishables to export to DXB.

I also thought some time about the need for a big Middle Eastern Carrier to fly to the Balkans, and frankly, I am happy that QR starts OTP, if this is true. Since RO axed its OTP-PEK flight, the only way to get from BUH to China or the Far East is via CDG/MXP/AMS/FRA, and that doesn't make a lot of sense.

I was also thinking about a possible codeshare OTP-DXB between EK and RO, but I guess Skyteam would have something to say against it. Smile
