I cannot believe that Virgin Atlantic & some US carriers have been going on about this for so long. It is just a marketing slogan from the '80s! If you are going to chose an airline bcause they say they are "The Worlds Favorite Airline" then I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I would like to sell you!
This is so stupid. The UK commision for standards is advertising has ruled in favor of BA being able to continue to use the phrase but I just think it is increadibly stupid that it went even that far. Increadable!

The phrase apeals to the lowest common denominator. Average, non aviation people realy have little preferance on what they fly, so if one airline sais that its the world's favorite then, hell, why not fly it. I bet if Southwest billed themselves as "America's favorite airline" they would have an increase in load factors, no matter how much of a lie it is.
Its the same as having those "Animals Attack" shows on Fox. It realy has no value whatsoever, but people think its cool so they watch it.

Yeah, But I still think it is just so very silly. There are many valid points, amenities and pax for these Great competitors to battle over that this just(to me) seems dumb for VA to actually go to British Authorites over BA's self serving slogan, that I think few pax or potential pax ever pay attention to. Oh well, I guess I will have to stop advertisig my self as the worlds most dashing man, I don't want Dick Branson to turn me into the Houseof Lords and make me have to prove it.
