Very interesting. So that would be the launch order for the Trent 1700. Interesting, too, that Finnair are a GE customer on their MD-11s with no history of buying RR. (They even bought PW for their 757s.)

From the RR Press Release;

Finnair becomes 53rd customer for the Trent series engines.

On the Trent 1700;

Final engine configuration and selection of technologies is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2007, and parts manufacturing will begin in early 2008. The first Trent 1700 will be ground tested in the first half of 2009.

Later that year the engine will make its maiden flight on a flying test bed, followed by airworthiness certification and first flight on the A350, both in 2010.

That is not on their site, it is a Filing with the London Stock Exchange

Congratulations to RR. This is sure a great vote of confidence towards the T1700.

Its going to be interesting to see who else jumps on board the Trent family for the A350 series.

Not quite so, the first Finnair jets, Caravelle IAs were powered by RR Avon turbo-jets. They were later upgraded to Caravelle III standard and sold back to SUD in exchange for 10B3-models, aka the Super Caravelle. I know that is ancient history, but so am I old

I think we can predict Yemenia with some confidence. And, who knows? Perhaps an airline close to your heart?  Wink

All is possible PM. Their is still no word out as to which power plant Tap Portugal have chosen for their new built A330 and A350.

I would expect GE to have an edge mainly due to the CFM on their A320 and A340 fleet + GE on their A310 fleet.

Rather similar to the CFM/GE combination on Finnair...  Wink

Well that's true. In Tap's case they operated the A310-300 with GE. I doubt it very much if they were to go PW with the new built A330 and then swap their A350 order to GE or RR.

This order should be one winner takes all. In this case for both the A330 and A350.

Wings
