Air Canada To Increase SAN-YVR To 2x Daily

Beginning sometime in July, Air Canada will go twice daily on their recently launched SAN-YVR route. The entire flight schedule will be modified so an aircraft overnights at SAN.

SAN-YVR
AC 8113 07:30 10:50
AC 8111 16:00 19:20

YVR-SAN
AC 8110 12:20 15:25
AC 8112 19:55 23:00

The one downside is that both flights will be operated with a CRJ-200 as opposed to the current CRJ-705. However, this remains an increase in the number of daily seats on SAN-YVR.

Well, it's a good thing that Air Canada is doing well enough in the SAN market that it can increase the number of seats offered, but it would have been cool to see the CRJ-705 upgraded to a EMB-175 or 190 instead.

Guess we'll be seeing a lot more of this in SAN:

Perhaps the CRJ200 is just filling in for the CRJ705 while the -705 is having its PTVs installed...?

The flight re-timing will also allow for the introduction of SAN-YYZ which arrives at the current CRJ-705 arrival time.

The re-timing of flights will also will connect to YVR-Asia banks in both direction.

There will be a chance of an upgrade when AS ceases SAN-YVR in September.

I agree. I'm glad AC is bringing back its presence at SAN, but I don't like to see it downgraded...

I saw that in OAG, but AS' website still lists the flight. You think it's true?

In other SAN news, Midwest will be increasing SAN-MCI from 1x daily to 2x daily over the summer. This is a seasonal addition.

While mainline AC CRJ's are almost fully integrated into JAZZ's fleet, the YVR-SAN flights would have to operate with original JAZZ "metal", as they have extended range capability. Don't believe there are currently any E75's based in YVR, but as more E90's arrive, the equipment could very well shift.

"Downgraded" is a relative term. Between the 220 daily seats AC will be operating from YVR/YYZ to SAN this year, versus 0 daily seats operated last year, it's a vast upgrade!

Why is Alaska discontinuing the non-stop SAN-YVR flight? Is there really not enough room for two players on this route? Is Air Canada hurting AS on this one? On this 2 plus hour route, I'd sure prefer an MD-80 or 737 to AC's 50 seat Barbie jet or even a larger 70 seat Barbie jet.

If they are suspending it September 6, methinks that this will become a summer seasonal flight, as the summer schedule ends on September 6 (or somewhere close to it).

Definitely. But if going for a smaller aircraft, the ERJ175s would be much better for this than good ol' CRJs.

The loads have been abysmal, its basically an O&D flight - no flow for Alaska. Plus, the flight was added purely as a competitive response to HP's addition of an RJ flight between SAN-YVR. Remained in the schedule until after the start of AC service. I think they feel they could have competed against HP, but no AC with AC's flow over YVR to places like YEG, YYC, YLW, YYJ.

No link, but based on alaskaair.com queries, it appears now it is ending sometime in October, probably with the Autumn schedule shift. Not bookable in late October into November.
