Question -especially for you frequent travellers. Is the weather getting worse and if so is it going to get worse and worse for flying.
The reason I raise this is that last year I flew from Atlanta to Manchester(UK) and we had some pretty rough turbulance most of the way. On landing the pilot apologised for the rough ride and added that in his 10 years of flying the pond, this has been the worst. That was 2004/5. Recent events with the Virgin flight which encountered bad turbulance. I understand there are flights diverting in the mid west due to stong headwinds and severe unusual weather. The UK has had one of its coldest spells that I can remember and snow still falling in March as the high pressure from the south fights with the artic blast. I spoke to a girl in a mall in Orlando last year. She moved from Key West which was prone to Hurricanes to Orlando to get away from them and they seem to be worst then ever now.
Do regular travellers notice the flights they have been doing for years and years, the ride seems to be getting less smooth then it used to be.

You know it is funny this is being brought up. I have been flying for 19 years. I was talking to a friend of mine the other night who had just gotten back to BWI. He is with another carrier now. He called and said. "I have never been beat up so much in my life." We both agreed that we think the weather is getting worse and the turbulance is more intense.

Weather goes in cycles. You've had record cold while we had a mild winter. We have had tons of rain the last few years here in ATL after years of severe drought. The lower jetstream was an oddity that happens now and then as well. I don't believe anyone knows the real reason why the weather changes as it does. I'm sure folks will chime in that it is global warming, the US refusing to sign the Kyoto Treaty, George W. Bush, punishment by God for Britney Spears and so on. (I am actually quite amazed when we have a huge snowfall somewhere and the environuts start hollering that it is because of global warming.)

Hurricanes are most definitely cyclical. The 60s and 70s were quite intense for hurricanes while the 80s and 90s were quite mild. We are just getting back into a strong cycle of hurricanes again. Add to that there are so many more people living in my home state versus 20 years ago and it makes the storms seem that much more intense and destructive as they have more to screw up.
