I was just watching airline on A&E (its an old episode) but they were talking about an WN jet that had its radar go down. So they were changing the radar cone (sorry brain fart can't remember what its called) at the gate, yet they continued to board the aircraft.
I know it makes to some degree to continue boarding that way if they get the issue resolved the plane could push back quickly. However if they can't get the problem fixed then all of the passengers and their carry-on has to be removed and moved to another aircraft.
So which makes sense.. Continue boarding the aircraft while the problem is fixed or keep everyone at the gate until the problem is fixed. I think the second option is the wiser but of course that is my

Well, if the issue was just the nose radome needing replacement and the MX crew knows they can get it done without an issue they might as well board.
Now the question here is if the equipment behind the radome had issues they may be looking at having to do some testing of the equipment and I would hold boarding for that because if the tests still come back a no go alternate options may have to be made (a/c swap, additional parts, etc.) or MX would have to DMI/MEL it. There are MANY things that get fixed during a turn and many times the customers are boarding during the MX procedures.
It's kind of a crap shoot...if they board while MX is getting done the flight may get out on time, but if everyone has to get off along with the baggage and COMAT onboard while the a/c gets swapped you are looking at quite a huge delay.
This is really a case by case basis. Obviously, the MX techs in this case knew what the problem was, what had to be done to rectify it and got the a/c out. If we held boarding everytime a coffeemaker or TV busted on an aircraft we would never be ontime!

As someone that has worked Line Maintenance it is far better to board then keep them inside at the gate. Once the problem is fixed no time is waisted boarding and the flight can push once maintenance is off the plane. Also, it is less likely that the flight will get cancelled if the passengers are on the plane. Keep in mind this only works in cases where we have a firm idea what is wrong and know our work will fix the problem.
