Is this a climb down after alienating all their frequent flyers last year ?
I noticed in a bmi mailshot today that tiny fares now qualify for the tiniest of miles 0.25, but at least this puts them back in the game with BA etc..
Other fares qualify for .5 through to 3x depending on ticket class.
So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY

This has been the case since the beginning of the year.
Also important to note that they earn miles not airmiles (the second being something run by BA).

Quoting Boeingguy1 (Reply 4): Speaking of Star, when is the Star Alliance going to throw them out? BD Is one of the worst run airlines in Europe
Well seeing that bmi are part owned by Lufthansa and SAS I very much doubt that will be the case. However who knows, maybe bmi management will decide to leave themselves (and alienate the last few customers they have).

Quoting IMatAMS (Reply 7): No it might not be a very well-run airline, but BD has a very important role in Star...
Why is Branson so keen to get an airline that loses £10m year? Why is Michael Bishop, BD's chairman, so reluctant to sell his 50 per cent stake? Probably because official recognition of BD's Heathrow landing rights, if it comes, could add £800m to the company's value. VS is paying through its nose for landing rights at LHR, and Star would not like to see its partner, who is LHR's second largest slot holder, walk away.

Actually Airmiles is a private company
"Regular flyers on British Airways are able to join the BA Executive Club and earn BA Miles. However, this is a completely separate scheme and should not be confused with AirMiles which is a customer loyalty programme."
and
"The AirMiles Travel Company not only offers flights on over 110 airlines (including British Airways, Virgin, Quantas and SAS), we also offer 25,000 hotels around the world as well as travel insurance and car hire. Through The AirMiles Travel Company, you can also book package holidays with the UK's top 100 tour operators."
A bit along the lines of Nectar and what used to be Air Canada's program

Quoting IMatAMS (Reply 7): and soon SA passengers into LHR?
BD has been feeding SA pax into-and out of LHR for years. They have been "partners" before SA even decided to join Star. BD has also been codesharing with SA on SA's JNB-LHR-JNB and CPT-LHR-CPT flights for quite a while now.
