they were seen last in August at the Maks 2005 airshow, and then a pic in the database has them landing in Portugal. Why Portugal,

Why does it take the Russians so long to manufacture and deliver an aircraft? If Boeing pulled this crap they would be bankrupt.........

I herd one of Cubana's IL-96 orders has been turned into an VIP aircraft for Castro.

Remember the fiasco about the IL96s being all grounded? This helped to delay the process...but you don't actually know what stage the aircraft was at when you saw the photo of it at the airshow. Have you ever noticed photos of VIP aircraft flying around and then spend over a year getting kitted out as VIP? Did you know that by the time the USAF 747-400 laser platform goes into service it will have been 'around' for a fairly large number of years? Remember when Rolls Royce powered A330s were all grounded for a while? I am sure that Ilyushin was not 'pulling crap' and that there was a reason for it all.

Well, it happened to Douglas, McDonnell, Lockheed to name a few. The Sovietunion let the inefficent companies still run and now they have to compete on the world market, which isn´t so easy.

They only have one yet, and the reason they are stopping at LIS are tech stops for fuel. These are relief flights doing Havana - Lisbon - Istanbul - Karachi and back, carrying medical staff and other stuff, related to the big earthquake that struck Pakistan recently.

Before the IL96, we got IL62 on the same weekly basis. Great sights  Smile

I suggest to lock this as it has become too political and off-topic as the most threads about Cubanas IL-96.

I bevieve one of Cubana's Il-96s will be convertible between normal pax use and VIP duties.

Castro probably needs it that way just so he can annoy MajorNelson when he flies to New York to address the UN. rotfl
