Well we were aware of the 742 replacing the 772 on the IAH run but we were under the impression that PK had knocked IAH back to a weekly service. From what we understand the 742 service starts tomorrow (Mar 25). So what other day is the PK service slated to operate?

Once a week for the off season i.e. till June 1st and then twice a week till mid Sept to cater for the peak season rush. This is the trend that happens every summer since IAH was launched by PIA.

According to the flight schedule on the PIA website, its twice weekly flight from Karachi to Singapore will be operated by B777-200 instead of the A310 currently being used. This takes effect on 26 Mar 2006.

I think its 4 weekly 777-200LRs and 2 weekly 747-200 combi. Might have forgotten the morning flight on Tuesday morning just to Lahore.

Rumor is that sometime in June 3x weekly I believe.

Slightly OT, but in their most recent press release, Boeing claimed that PIA is the first airline to operate the entire 777 family.

Does PIA have (or had?) 772s and 773s? I know they operate the 772ER, 772LR, and will be getting the 773ER later this year.

Thanks  Smile

legally and technically speaking Emirates by 2007 will be the only airline that has in its fleet every model of the B 777 family i.e. :

B 777-200A
B 777-200ER
B 777-200LR
B 777-300
B 777-300ER

PIA doesnt have nor did it ever order the standard B 772 and B 773 versions.

what bugs me is that PK is unable to fly any of its routes daily with the same aircraft..... The most frequent PK does fly any route with the same aircraft is Manchester - Islamabad amd Heathrow - Islamabad with the 743 five times a week.

I was thinking the same thing myself, though perhaps not the cargo reference. Indeed it will be nice from a spotters view to have something different to record (IAH has not seen a scheduled pax 'classic' 747 since the 90s), still one has to wonder why pull a state-of-the-art 777 and replace it with what some on this forum have called a rust bucket? The service is suppose to start today, and depending on whom you believe (the PK web site or Flytcomm) it looks as if the flight is severely delayed arriving in MAN or cancelled outright and Flytecomm is not even showing the flight.

I am not surprised, those planes are so old. Could be anything. The combis are
half cargo and half passengers, right?

hmm you would think that you'd go more than 2x weekly from Pakistan to ORD considering the high amount of Pakistani's we have here.

my mom and dad are two of the regular ORD PK customers.. biggrin

actually, after restarting services just a few years ago, they even went 1x/weekly during the "off-peak" times...fortunately, they are sticking with the Tuesday/Saturday 2x/weekly......I think they can possibly go to 3X/weekly, but that would require more brand advertising......which by the way, PK are pretty bad at...

Are they allowed to fly passengers from ORD to MAN or does everyone have to go on to Pakistan?

Jeremy..you sure you dont' need to see a doctor? Lol..just kidding... Wink

but those 747's are rustbuckets...they breakdown a bit, and you certainly can't compare it to their newer 777's...especially their brand new -200LR's..
