Why Does Airbus Add Lights On The Side Of The.?

Hello all


I was just wondering after watching the AC A340-300 taking off you can see the two small lights on the side of the forward fuselage. What made Airbus decide to add these lights on the side of the fuselage on all aircraft Here's the link to the video of AC A343 taking off. http://flightlevel350.com/video_streaming.php?id=5718

One thing I do understand since the lights are used for taking off and landing if its not locate on the wing or underneath the wing then they would place it on the fuselage on A300 and A310 however on A320s, A321 and A319 plus A340s and A330s do have lights underneath their wing or on the wing they still have those one or two smaller lights on the fuselage. I hope this makes any sense.

I don't know a bunch about the A340 but I think those are wing and/or runway turnoff lights. Wing lights allow for inspection of the leading edge of the wing, and runway turnoff lights give you a wider illuminated field of view when you're trying to find a (often-times elusive) taxiway at night. Or they could be for something I don't have a clue about  boggled 

A lot of (most?) airlines turn on all available outside lights for takeoff/landing for maximum visibility.

Those are wing inspection lights. Makes it alot easier to see ice buildup at night  Smile

So do Douglas aircraft, although the Douglas TriJets are the only aircraft I know which have the landing lights near the radome.

If I'm not mistaken, you must have all lights (taxi lights, wing and runway turnoff and landing lights, along with beacons, strobes and NAV lights) on during takeoff and landing, and I believe also when you're below 10,000 ft MSL (this could be variable in the case of high altitude airports such as DEN, MEX, UIO and LPB), though the taxilights in the nose gear can be turned off after departure since they're stowed in the aircraft and obviously not visible.
