There was the same question about the 757, but i found a very short 727 route, and would like to know what other really short 727 routes there are. What i found was

UNITED #1230 PWM-MHT (Portland,ME-Manchester,NH) this route is 30 minutes gate-to-gate on the UA schedule. Are there shorter ones? Or ones close to this?

Probably not the shortest, but there are numerous flights between Cincinnati and Louisville flown by both Delta and UPS with B727 equipment. The flights are scheduled to last 40 minutes and are approx. 70 nm in distance. I have been on a Delta flight on this trip which lasted close to 20min.

I once flew a TWA 747 CIA-FCO, about a 20 minute flight from the west of Rome to the east of Rome, but this was due to a diversion, probably an ATC labor slowdown.

Delta up until a year or so ago had a B727 from SJC to OAK. It was a posistioning flight at the end of the day. Total time in the air was about 10 minutes. The flight would depart 30L at SJC, fly runway heading, climb and maintain 3000 until intercepting the 29 ILS localizer at OAK then a slight left turn and straight into OAK. This slight was also operated by an MD80 at times

I rode a Continental 727-200 from MIA to FLL back in the early 80's. We took off from MIA's rwy 31, turned to 360 degrees, flew about 3 minutes on that heading, turned 90 degrees right, and landed on FLL's rwy 9L. Total flight time 6 to 8 minutes (18 air miles).

Friends:

United used to fly 727s from SFO to OAK. This was (and probably still is) the shortest schedualed airline flight in the world, flown by a jet. Listed in the scheduale as 11 miles, and a flight time of :19 minutes. Upon departure, the plane didn't even raise its gear. In United's 10/31/86 scheduale, there are two flights across the bay:

UA 536: SF0 - OAK - DEN - MSY

UA 750: LAS - SFO -OAK - ORD -BTV - BGR

Both 727-200s ... So, there ya go

Lindy - Delta Shuttle flights are approx 1 hour long, not 30 min. I have not been on a 30 minute shuttle flight, and I have flown on the shuttle around 400 times.

Also, (for the main discussion), I think CO operated a Hobby-IAH flight a while ago on the 727.

Jeff,

I was on DL Shuttle only once, probably 3 years ago. I dont know about DL but US Shuttle air time is 30 minutes and 45 gate to gate.

Even TWA Express J41 DCA - JFK is 45 minutes flight.

I flew DL Louisville-Nashville on a 727 this year. Very quick, we hardly even levelled off.

NW flies GRR-DTW with a 727. Flight time was 22 mins from takeoff to touchdown, plus 20 mins taxi time at DTW.

Continental Micronesia operates 727-200s on the GUM-SPN route in their shuttle operations between the two islands, flight time is less than 30 minutes, a distance of 145 miles. They also operated the DC-10-10 on this route.

A -REALLY- short one (not currently operated by jets) was the GUM-ROP (Rota Island) runs (15 miles?) with the 727-100/200. This was stopped due to an accident. Coral/asphalt runway surfacing (a popular road surface used in Micronesia) becomes like ice when wet, this material was used on the runway at ROP. A 727 slid off the runway at ROP in the late 80s/early 90s due to this and service switched to turboprops with Air Mike Express.
