I have a few questions now.
So how long is the extended runway?
Do they think that they could get Southwest to use the airport?
How many people would fly out of LNS and what metro area is it an alternate to?
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Quoting RoseFlyer (Reply 1): So how long is the extended runway?
Runway was 5398ft in length. The article states a 1600ft extension.

It is for the Harrisburg/Hershey greater metropolitan area.
Yes, that's why WN was invited to try to this out. Wish them luck, hopefully it will work for LNS.

I hope this works out as well... MDT, I hear, is not as impressive an airport really, and nobody wants to schlep out to PHL from here...

Nice publicity stunt, but this might be the beginning of RJ service to LNS. LNS airport is in the middle of nowhere, too far from PHL and ABE for an LCC and too far from MDT to be a reliever there. I know, I know, if US can't fill a BE1 from PIT to LNS, there's no chance of filling an RJ from anywhere else, but stranger things have happened.

Agreed, but exactly... who knows what might happen. Lancaster is actually growing very rapidly. Population projections for Lancaster city in another 15-20 years call for this city to have over 100,000 people living here (I know you people have accused me of making up numbers, but TRUST ME ON THIS!!! This is according to a figure I studied in an Urban and Regional Planning course I took here to satisfy my major as well as my minor in Environmental Hazards and Emergency Management) The county has almost a half a million residents at roughly 470,000 plus. If WN, or some other larger commercial airline service was to locate to LNS, then I would expect development near the airport to really take off, pardon the pun... I believe this neighborhood is booming as well...
