Cathay Pacific and Malaysia Airlines have signed a code-sharing agreement that will see 31 flights a week between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong by the end of this year. Cathay Pacific will mount the intial extra 7 weekly flights whilst future services will be flown by MAS. Cathay Pacific is also keen to add Langkawi and Johor Bahru onto its route network but there is a significant amount of red tape involved. Interestingly, Cathay Pacific also announced that although its four daily services into Singapore will be unaffected - it has stated that it was keen to beef up services into Malaysia instead.

Although both parties deny that this is an indication that MAS will be joining oneworld - it certainly is an interesting move with the recent talks between Qantas and MAS. BA who is currently preoccupied with its own neighbour KLM is also understood to be monitoring MAS in the run-up to talks with the airline.

Meanwhile, KLM will increase its 747-400 services into Kuala Lumpur to daily from this winter. Code-shared with MAS' own daily service - Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur will now be linked twice-daily.
