With the codeshare with AC ending tomorrow, MX will be once again changing its YYZ scheduled operations. Effective July 1st:

MX886 MEX1340 YYZ1905 (A319) overnights
MX887 YYZ0835 MEX1225 (A319).

MX has been all over the map with scheduling for years, but for the purposes of connectivity they should do well with the revised times.

There are frequent equipment upgrades over the summer (A320/B757) given the number of Mexican "guest workers" travelling up North as farmworkers.

I agree with this newer schedule. Toronto deserves more 757s flights from MX. Every year, more and more Canadians visit Mexico, and thousands connect in the US, specially ORD.

Indeed, that takes us to the next point.-

In some days they send the 757, but not always the amount of passengers is enough to send the plane, so the costs get very high, and with the A319 the operation turns very cheaper, in fact, the YYZ route makes money with 75 passengers operating the A319.

To me personally, the late return flight YYZ-MEX made a lot of sense (I may be spending a few days in Toronto within the next three months) but the new schedules seem to cater to Canadian travelers more. Anyway, good luck to MX in Canada without AC as its partner. I hope one day MX will be able to do 2x weekly MEX-YYZ-MEX and one of those 2 flights will be with a widebody.

By the way, has anyone noticed how expensive MEX-YYZ-MEX fares are in June?

MX nonstop fares to YYZ and YUL are expensive all year long.
Cheaper flying to ORD and connecting. but then again... the Visa issue....

But AC fares are also quite high (as high or even higher than MX's) for June. Actually the difference between the quoted coach AC fare and the lowest AC business fare is quite slim.

And fares of U.S. carriers with connections at their hubs are not substantially lower either. It seems it is a time of heavy traffic.

I could see a flight to YYC working, with all the expansion in Alberta with oil and such. even if it is only 3/4 flights a week to start with a 318/319 might work pretty good for them!

YYC was a long candidate for expansion routes into Canada. Once MX gets more Airbus we might probably see it announcing YYC for December or early 2007!

Seems to me that, while AC and MX were partners, AC was the one taking care of the leisure routes, while MX focused on flights from MEX. Now that the partnership is over, perhaps MX will start flights from CUN to YYZ and YUL and from SJD to YVR (my wishes only).

I am not sure, but aren't AC and MX still codeshare partners? I know MX left star alliance, but Air Canada's route map still lists YYZ and YVR as "Operated by other partner airlines".
