I'm going to fly HKG-LHR on 16th April with CX253 (afternoon flight). Just want to ask a stupid question: Why do they put such a HKG-JFK-HKG routine aircraft to London (They always use A343 for afternoon flight and 744 for night flight)?

thx in advance

Looking forward to being in CX 747ADV and A388.....

What exactly are you trying to say?

CX have 4 daily flights to LHR 2 A343's and 2 B744's. The 346's are used to the JFK run mainly and at times of the year they go to YVR or SYD.

A bit off topic, but wouldn't those flights be perfect candidates for putting 2 A380 instead?

Like most of life's problems, this one can be solved with bending -- Bender Unit 22

B-HQA visited 29.03.06 in the evening so maybe they start to use them.

I believe CX will be using 346s to LHR 3/4 times a week

CX has three A346s. Two are used for the HKG-JFK JFK-HKG route at any one time. So there is one spare A346 and they can put that to use as well.

As for why A346 instead of A343, probably because they need the higher capacity for Easter. A lot of British expats will be heading home from HKG, and a lot of schoolchildren from HK will be returning to HKG for their Easter break.

1 A380 does not equate to 2 744s.
SQ is only putting about 480/490 seats on their A380s.

CX has already indicated it won't be ordering any A380s for the forseeable future.
