Polynesian Blue - Hows It Doing?

Hey,

Just wondering how Polynesian Blue is doing after it took over international services from Polynesian airlines late, last year. Does anybody know what loads are like for the APW-AKL/SYD flights? Are there any expansion plans for the airline? Possibly tonga, honolulu or niue island? Or maybe even a 2nd aircraft any time soon?

I'd like to see them recommence the WLG-TBU-APW flights that Poly used to do rather than having to connect via AKL when going to Samoa.

Haven't heard how they are doing but cheaper airafres are always attractive, but I've heard they're putting people's noses out of joint by being so vigilant on excess baggage charges.

On a separate note, I could see a twice weekly flight to Virgin's BNE hub working well for them so as to access all ports except SYD.

I love it. What is probably happening is that passengers are saving $100 on airfare but moaning about $50 in XBAG charges. People will never be satisfied. I applaud PH (is it PH still?) for being vigilant.

I use to process arriving passengers while I was with MAF at WLG. The flights were always at least half full, even upto 80% full, then add on cargo and you could say the flight was over loaded. When PH operated the flights, it should have been twice weekly

When NZ used to ground handle PH excess used to always be a prob, so this is nothing new.

Samoan Kiwis tend to take a lot of produce home to Samoa that is either very hard to get or very expensive in the islands. I don't think you realise the ramifications on uber vigilance on excess baggage. We're not talking a mere $50 (lol).

Ramifications is a pretty strong word.

If passengers are willing to pay more for the airfare and skirt XBAG rules by using NZ, then they should move to NZ. But complaining about not being able to take more XBAG than allowed without having to pay for it?

Airlines are in the business to make money.

If you've seen the check-in crew handling the "umu" packs to take back to Samoa, you'll know to which I am referring.

So does anybody have any idea of loads? Where HNL and TBU poor performers on PH's network? Is that why DJ did not continue them. I no hawaiian flies from Pagopago, that that is a seperate country. If virgin blue wanted to maybe start Aus-LAX flights one way could be SYD-APW-HNL-LAX!!!!! Also what happened to Alhoa on PGO-HNL?

How long is the SYD-APW flight?

To answer some questions raised on this thread...

For all intents and purposes, consider PolynesianBlue to be just PacificBlue.

There is one aircraft (ZK-PBF) which is painted with "polynesianblue.com" down it's side, but this is cycled across the PacBlue network just like the others and in actual fact has been spending most of the last month or so operating out of CHC rather than the Poly routes.

Loads on the AKL / SYD / APW / TBU routes are great. I'd say we're talking upward of 75% loadings on average. Obviously there are occasional exceptions to every rule.

SYD - APW is a flight time in the vicinity of 5hrs 30.

Excess baggage is a nightmare on all flights out of AKL, due not specifically to the guests taking more on these routes - but due to Menzies (AKL ground handlers) being seemingly completely unable to enforce carry-on limits.

Expansion wise, I would say expect PacificBlue routes to be expanded, and another aircraft added to this side of the airline before specific PolynesianBlue routes are looked at for changes.

Access rights to HNL were acquired with the takeover of PH however, and are still held I believe.

Blame AIAL for that too... they are sposed to check hand carry weight and size before pax proceed to customs, I have seen certain "red coats" wave through bound for APW that were at the very least close friends if not extended family judging by the way they were acting. I have also heard stories of "red coats" complaining about how they always seem to be stopping Island bound pax but not many others...... that wouldn't have anything to do with pax carrying a large bag each plus other smaller bags?
You often see bags being taken down the airbridge stairs to be loaded in the hold presumably because the overhead bins are chocka!
