I came across this picture on planes.cz, It looks like this MD11 went through a hail Storm or is in a state of disrepair.

Anyone know what happened here?

How did a AC MD11 end up in Budapest? I thought the Asian flights went are Pacific ops.

What makes you think it's a writeoff? Just needs to be repainted.

WO doesn't meen in this case that the aircraft is a writt off, but WO is the airline code for World Airways, and for the AC I let you guess...

Cheers.

Any idea How old that picture is?
That baby rolled past me on take off from 6L at YYZ on March 28, and it looked just fine... Unless AC has two leased...

Or maybe I need to have my eyes checked.

The aircraft just needs a paint job...I actually saw this airplane in either Amsterdam or Frankfurt a few weeks ago, ship no. 274. It looks exactly the same.

It wasn't in a hail storm, etc. The paint is just peeling off the aircraft - it's very simple.

KrisYYZ: Air Canada does not technically operate the MD11. It's wet-leased from World Airways to provide charter services. It's not doing Trans-Pacific flights or anything like that, it's just flying over the Atlantic doing freight runs. AC's Trans-Pacific Fleet of A330's A340's and B767's does their Pacific/Hawaii flying.

Air Canada wet leases 3 WO MD11F's for cargo operations: Ships 274, 275 and 381.

My apologies.... for some reason I never knew WO was their airline code.

True, but it does operate with a AC call sign and flight number.

AC doesn't fly any A333's across the Pacific.

Dated March 20th/2006... although I still don't know why it would of stopped in BUD unless it was a cargo charter or tech stop.

It wasn't operating for AC when it was in BUD. AC doesn't have exclusive use of the WO MD-11F's.

Pardon my mistake.
However, I do believe that I've seen the AC330 in HNL. I will do more research and give you a more conclusive answer in the near future and provide you with specifics.

KrisYYZ: While it may have an AC flight no & callsign, it is a wet-lease. World Airways crews operate the aircraft and it is registered to WO and operated on behalf of Air Canada. It is not an Air Canada aircraft, it does not carry a Canadian registration nor is the crew from AC. It is simply a wet-lease.

AC uses the WO MD-11F aircraft to Shanghai too....which is a trans-Pacific flight. The flight number is AC1997 YYZ-PVG 5 x per week

The other destinations are YYZ-FRA (AC1998 daily until Apr 14th then down to 5 x per week) and YYZ-BRU-DEL (AC1988 on day 6)

Noticed that the paint was stripping on this machine around one month ago...Sad that they haven't dealt with it yet, doesn't help with image when it says "Operated for Air Canada" on the side.

It's a typical WO ship.. but the interior and flight functions are in perfect shape. I don't know about you, but I love her a little bit dirty..  Smile

It only takes five years to go from rumor to standard operating procedure.

It more than likely was a 340 you saw in HNL, I do not believe we have ever sent 330's there.

274 goes to C-check this month, the paint will be most likely dealt with there. The YYZ-FRA and YYZ-YHZ-VIT-FRA turns are usually operated by Gemini.

Just remembered that it may have had diverted to BUD on it's way to DEL. AC1988 operates YYZ-BRU-DEL. Seem to recall something about a delay due acft went mechanical on AC1989 DEL-BRU-YYZ in March.
