What Is The Point Of Austral?

I just came back from a two week trip to Buenos Aires and I spent a few hours on a couple of different days at Aeroparque in BA (AEP) on my way to and from Iguazu (I flew LAN by the way). From what I could see, Aerolineas Argentinas (AR) and Austral (AU) have the same fleet mix, the same check-in counters, the same destinations, the same livery. So just what exactly is the point of Austral?
