why are CI painting AE colors on their planes again? I thought the problem with them flying to places with their own colors was over. I know there were some posts where some people said it was CIs attempt at a new "non Chinese " identity but the Mandarin colors are so 1970ish! This is their one A343 leased from Boeing, is there a reason they painted this one this way and not any others??

So there were no more planes in Mandarin livery?
Slightly larger titles is the only thing lacking in this sharp-looking livery. Golden logo on a dark tail and some lines along the fuselage. No eurowhite nonsense here. Beautiful A340 wow!

no widebodies at least in recent years, their domestic/regional narrowbodies 738, F100 are the only jets sporting the Mandarin livery

Quoting AeroWesty (Reply 3): RE: Why Is China Airlines Called China Airlines? (by FlyingHippo Mar 22 2006 in Civil Aviation)#ID2673174
>As for CI renaming itself? CI is already doing that through its' subsidiary, AE. Infact, CI is in the process of repainting their leased A343 to AE's colors. Some speculate CI is doing that to transform itself way from "China Airlines" name, but CI states they're repainting the A343 for AE's growth plans. Sad... I love CI's colors a lot more than AE's colors.
>BTW, I saw on the news today the one CI A340 that was repainted in Mandarin Airlines colors. That plane will be used for presidential trips apparently. Pretty damn ugly if you ask me. Ironically, the dull scheme makes it look mainland Chinese.
what growth plans could AE possibly be contemplating which needs a A343?????
I could see using A333s, in fact aren't some CI KHH-HKG A333 flights operating with AE numbers . But are AE really starting to go longhaul again???
The idea its all a big hoohaa for President Chen to use as his presidential plane on overseas trips (he has a bee up his a... about getting the word China out of all Taiwanese companies) seems implausible. If he is really that worked up about CI's livery he's got a Air Force VIP 738 he can fly on or he can go on BR which is owned by some of his political fundraisers!

Both the Presidential Office and CI deny that the re-painting has anything to do with the Preisdent's upcoming trip. CI says that the aircraft will begin serving the KHH-HKG route for Mandarin Airlines more.
BR no longer sponsors the DPP, and the Evergreen Group has been leaning towards the KMT for a long time already.

why would they put their only 3 class A343 on KHH-TPE???? wouldn't it make more sense to paint a A333 in AE colors??

CI were there first, by about 3 decades+, so why should they give up their name to CA???
this is becoz the president of Republic of China (now is known as Taiwan) want to perform independence of Taiwan. He want to seperate China and Taiwan completely. To do this, he need to change the company name which contains the word "China", China Airlines is one of the company he want to take action.
it is very easy to classify, the airline has better livery and better service is from Taiwan, the airline has an old-fashioned levery and have communist style service is from China.

not to quible but even the present President still agrees with the present constitution of the present government on the island known usually as Taiwan that the nation is still called the Republic of China, at least for now anyway!

To quibble some more....the new ROC passports have TAIWAN in all caps featured very prominently on the front.
Trust me, as a foreigner, I never know if I should refer to my friends here as Taiwanese or Chinese, never mind what we are calling airlines these days!
