According to flight tracking, Northwest flight 1916: DTW-JFK turned around over eastern Pennsylvania, and is returning to Detroit. Is this unusual? The turn-around occured when the aircraft was nearly over New Jersey. Why would it come back to Detroit??

I wouldn't say NW is anymore prone than the others. I've been on 36 NW flights this year alone, not one had any mechanical issues. The last mechanical I had on NW was in Nov. '05
