Synopsis: Allegiant is expected to announce Thursday twice-weekly nonstop service from Las Vegas to Abilene Regional Airport.
Allegiant already serves GRK, SPS, LRD, and MFE, and recently passed up service to ACT due to a dispute over fuel charges.
I must admit that I was skeptical that my hometown airport could pull it off, but kudos to Abilene officials for making it happen. An incentive package was offered, but no details were immediately released.
Currently, ABI is served by AAEagle RJs to DFW and CoConnection SF3s to IAH.

It's great that an airline like Allegiant is looking at these types of routes. I have family in the Killeen area and they have remarked that this kind of service definately gives them the LCC option right from their town and not having to drive an hour or two to get to a bigger town's airport. Good on Allegiant.
In the article, they mention the fact that ABI airport officials are looking at carriers to the West. Could they be courting UA Express (DEN) or perhaps America West Express (PHX) to start service?

ABI might court UAExpress or AWExpress, but I'll doubt they'd have much luck. MAF and LBB are much larger, more developed airports, and not even they have service from these carriers.
I hope ABI can make this service work. I just read that Allegiant was planning on serving SPS (Wichita Falls), but dropped the service before the first flight due to lackluster ticket sales. I hope this fate doesn't await ABI.

Anyways...besides that, I'm hoping that they could attempt LAW since OKC is out of the picture. Fort Sill is going to be adding thousands of new jobs, and those are a lot of military types wanting to go to a non-Indian casino.
Any opinion/comment posted is that of my own and not that of Southwest Airlines Co.

Looks like we fly Mondays and Fridays, leaving LAS at 1420 and getting into ABI at 1840 and returning leaving ABI at 1920 and returning back into LAS at 1945.

Tried it and it didn't work out.

G4resagent, looks like we are hitting things at the same time. I just tried to post the schedule from the passenger view rather than ops view. You know, answer the question of when do I leave such and such city and get to Vegas.

So, were the early booking numbers at SPS just incredibly low? What is Allegiant generally looking for in terms of loads in these bookings?
Growing up in Abilene, we always used to have to drive 3 hours to DFW to get a low fare.
Now, living in Dallas, looks like I'll be able to drive to Abilene and get a low fare.
