Hi everybody!
Does anyone know the exact date, when DL starts its JFK-BUD service?
What about ticket prices? Which plane will they use for this service? Probably the 767-300ER.
Will it be a daily service? What about the arriving and departure times in BUD?

Lowest round trip JFK-BUD for now is about US$700 + taxes
Inaugural flight JFK-BUD is very full in J (only 4 seats left for sale) but average in Y. Earlier parts of May are not that heavy and then starts picking up in late May as the summer season starts...

In response to DL BUD flights, Malev Hungarian has signed a code-sharing agreement with AA to 18 US destinations. MA will also be moving ops into AA's terminal 8 at JFK and has changed its MA90/91 times to accommodate the transferring pax onward to other US destinations.
Once the privatization of MA goes through, expect replacement of its 2 B762ERs.

Didn't MA used to cooperate w/ DL and operate out of T2/T3 at JFK?

Yes, long time ago, DL used to codeshare with MA on its nonstop JFK-BUD flights after DL pulled out of BUD. That codeshare has been dead for quite a few years now but MA has been using DL's Terminal 3 at JFK for its flights (though they will move over to AA's soon)

What about the two 762 of Malev? I've heard they will be removed by 3 763.
Can anyone confirm on that? What about the triple seven? Okay I think its to big for them.

Where will they get the 763 from?
No confirmation... It is a pretty wide spread rumor in Hungary. Malev owns the 2 B762s which are getting old and over-used. MA wants to sell them and lease 3 B763 from an Asian airline, which one? your guess is good as mine.
My prediction is nothing will happen until MA gets privatized, which granted might happen in this summer. I can't see MA getting B777s or A330s, I think the B763s (if they come at all) will be an interim solution until MA orders new planes. A year a go there was talk about MA selling the B767s and stopping long-haul ops, but with the AA agreement and MA joining OneWorld, I can't see that happening anymore.

I think it would be sad if they have stopped their longhaul flights.
For me its allways somethings special when airlines like MA or JA are going to NYC with their few longhaul planes.
I hope the hungarian won't kill me for my following comment, but those flights to JFK remember me of all the cruise ships who went to USA with immigrants in the early twenties.

Here is another question about Malev's longhaul fleet
I know they have 2 762 right now. HA-LHA and HA-LHB.I found out that they had 2 763 HA-LHC and HA-LHD before. Did they give them back to Boeing for the two 762?

Firstly Malev had only one B763 (HA-LHC) for a short time, until the two brand new B762 arrived from Boeing. HA-LHD was a B763 and as far as I can remember it was in Malev's fleet only for a few month in the summer time of 2000. The aircraft had several problems with operation...
There is a rumor about the B762s: They will phase out one in this Spring/Summer and get one B763 as a replacement. Probabaly it will be an Air Europa B763.

That was a ex-delta ship (LHD), MA spent a lot of money on it, it had a nice business class, IFE, everything. It suffered a engine failure on T/O and BUD, I herd it would of required a new engine along with significant work on the fuel system. So MA just dumped it, I believe LOT used it for a few months and was parked in the desert after.

How can MA run daily JFK and 5/w YYZ with one aircraft? Makes no sense, but again a lot of things the MA does has no logic behind it. I hope it will be privatized before the Hungarian Government appointed CEO's run it into the ground.

Don't forget the flights during winter to BKK. I saw some pictures that MA operates them with 738 via DXB. But last winter when I picked up my mum from BUD I saw the 762 heading for BKK.
Is the YYZ service really that regulary?
I only see mostly the JFK plane at BUD when I have to go there.
Further more I saw a picture in "Aero International" of a MA 762 in Male Intl during the tsunami last winter.
I do not find the foto anymore, but it was no emergency flight, because the airport was floated.
Who will buy Malev, as it will be privatized? BA? Any suggests?

At one point MA was running BUD- JFK/YYZ/BKK and some regular charters to NRT with the 2 B762 and one B763. This past summer MA sometimes ran 3 daily flight to BKK, the 2 B762 and 1 B738 as you said.
Last summer the BUD-YYZ run was at 95% load factor. MA runs 2/w flights during the winter and 5/w during the summer. I booked YYZ-BUD for May in Feb and got one of the last seats on that flight. My sister (former MA FA) told me that sometimes even some of the crew jump seats where occupied by paying pax.

Well, several airlines have indicated interest in MA, but most likely a Russians consortium will buy MA this summer, as indicated by Mr. Putin's during his visit to Budapest a month ago.

So you are coming to BUD? You are a medical as I could read in your profile. I study medicin at Semmelweis University in Budapest. If you like you can write me an email. thecking@hotmail.com. What medical are you?
6th time in 2 years, My family is in Budapest, most of which work or have worked in the Hungarian aviation sector. I get to spend a quite a while in the 767 flight deck during the flight, so I'll see if there is any new info on MA's fleet/network form the pilots.

Hello Kris! They will operate daily JFK and 5/w YYZ with two B767. One is a B763 and one is a B762. Btw: They want to run daily YYZ also in the summer season!

Yeah, in the winter time MA reduces the JFK/YYZ services, so they use sometimes a B762 for BKK service.

They have some winter charters to Male, Varadero, and some other exotic places, operated by B762.

You remember a few months ago when that Air Europa B767 lost its emergency slides on TO and BUD? Do you think thats the B763 that MA will get? Maybe it was at ACE as a maintenance check before its leased. I wonder what will happen to LHA or LHB?
Have you herd any info about the F-100 replacing the CRJs?

That Air Europa B763 was returning to MAD after maintenance, and as you wrote, lost its emergency slide. The aircraft returned to BUD and other maintenance works started... Anyway, I dont know which aircraft will be leased...

As far as they wont find a buyer for the CRJs, there wont be any new regional jet .
