Sounds like the incoming flight was diverted...maybe inbound from KEF had to circle? Maybe DLH is the planned alternate.
Now that would be something to see at DLH!!

That makes sense, we do have some severe thuderstorms rumbling through the MSP area right now. Thanks!

Why from FI thou? why not AA or DL? surely that would cost a lot less then a plane from FI thatd have to fly from KEF...
Doors open, right hand side, next stop is Springfield.

I noticed the plane went from MSP to DLH and back to MSP so my guess is a group that is heading to KEF ultimately thus the reason for FI.

There were a lot of MSP diversions today to places like DLH, LSE, FSD and RST. Icelandair did end up in Duluth, it looks like a flight tracker glitch showed it has having landed first at MSP and then a new flight plan showed it leaving MSP for DLH.

NW used to (I'm not sure if they still do) have a large maintanance facility up at DLH. They'd regularly get 747s and DC-10s in for work. They've got a 10,000ft runway up there. They've seen some interesting stuff up there, but an the icelandair plane is probably a first.

Yeah, we do. It was much more likely diverted than someone doing a special trip on Icelandair from MSP-DLH. I know they have nice flight attendants, but it would be much easier and cheaper just to go NW.

Try as they might, no group would be able to fly Icelandair Duluth-MSP. It's a foreign carrier - no local travel rights.

They could have picked up the group in DLH then gone back to MSP for the rest, but that is really unlikely
