Despite the well publicized delays and monorail problems, Newark is far better than JFK. It is more compact, has the benefit of being a hub so connections and frequencies are good, and is much more pleasant to go through. JFK will get better as new terminals are built (AA, IAB, etc...).

JFK is just too **** big. EWR has a much better intra-airport transportation system (is there even one at JFK). JFK is a city within a city. I like EWR.

Well its all according to where you live. For me JFK is my airport because for one thing I live in eastern New York City. Newark is for people in western New York,(Manhattan,Bronx,Westchester County,Statin Island, and New Jersey)

I live in Westchester and find that JFK is easier to get to in terms of distance. The drive on the Van Wyck sucks (as it full of traffic), but it is still easier to get to than EWR.
I'm going to go with JFK because it is the epitomy of an international airport and what most people see as inconvenience, I see as more interesting. To me, it is not a rela international trip unless it leaves from JFK.

I live in Connecticut and I must say that my choice is JFK. Everytime I fly to Europe, i always go through JFK. While EWR is nice, JFK always has captivated me. I love the fact that everything about it is New York. The evening rush hour traffic to Europe...just like the evening rush home from work. IT is just a crazy, lively and extremely congested airport...just like New York City. Long live JFK!!!!

I would definetly take JFK over EWR anyday. JFK is so much nicer. Are you going on a trip and can't decide on which one?

Hi, I'm not going on a trip, But I was wondering which airport everyone preferred. I like Newark because of Continental's Operations, Location being closer to Manhattan than JFK, and EWR having more traffic, and being a nicer airport.

JFK is my choice. I've grown up on Long Island, near the airport and watching the big jets thunder overhead on final approach at nearby parks when I was just a wee lad is what got me hooked on aviation....:>)
I go to JFK at least twice a month just to spot and take in the airport scene and happenings.
Man, when the IAB terminal is finished next year and the monorail system is in place and operational, JFK will once again become the gateway to the US. 'Nuff said.

In favor to JFK, it is a much better airport in terms of spotting (for the variety). JFK is the largest port of
entry into the United States by air. There are airlines
from all over the world.
Newark has a number of international airlines (mainly
from Europe, as well as Singapore Airlines, El Al,
Eva Air, others, but too many to name and Central American carriers) but the variety
and sense of exoticism is far more apparent at JFK. However, in matters of convenience, proximity to Manhattan, connections, and breadth of service, Newark is my preffered choice. It's cleaner, nicer, more user friendly, and Continental has done an exceptional job of turning this sleepy backwater into a first class airport hub operation for New York. If only the delays could be addressed through improved air corridors around Newark and Northern New Jersey.....

I'll pick JFK any day. I will always look forward to see the TWA terminal as well as the old PAN AM World Port now the Delta flight center and the new Terminal 1 (ex Eastern Airlines Terminal). I pretend that the PAN AM name is still there and not Delta's. I'm always interested on what new develpoments are going on with the Air Train and the new AA, number 2, and international terminals. I cant wait until construction is completed so that JFK will look alot brighter. The new parking garges will make parking at JFK mich easier to find and more closer to the terminals. JFK is really great for spotting because there are so many international airlines flying in and out of JFK.

Isn't Delta building a new terminal at JFK (Combining T2 and T3)?

I visit Manhattan about every year, and the public transport to and from Newark sucks, an expensive bus... a railway, a subway... while you can get to JFK nonstop with the subway.
The only thing I don't like of JFK is they didn't had windows (at least in 1995) in the International terminal, you couldn't see anything, it was quite claustrofobic.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

As a former New Yorker, I love JFK for its diversity of carriers and I think the different terminals are far more interesting than EWR. And going to EWR from Manhattan has always been a headache any way you try it.

JFK
Hands down.
It's close to my house and there is nothing like having an airplane fly a few hundred feet above you, while driving on the Conduit or Belt Parkway.
I fondly remember Pan Am, TWA and Eastern of the 1970s at JFK, so the memories are there too. Newark is an ugly airport, with no character at all (and nasty customs police to boot).
I always demand JFK as my point of origin NY airport.

There is no comparison between the IAB at JFK and the beautiful facility at EWR. I don't know how the new IAB at JFK will be when completed, but Newark's is just great. Open, airy, and user-friendly. And has anybody seen CO's new concourse that is under construction? Here are a few images for those interested:

MEA-707, you can't get to JFK by subway nonstop. You can ride the train to Howard Beach, then switch to a bus. It's a long, time consuming ride. It is
also not true that Newark is expensive to get to. Coach USA has buses that
run from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Pennsylvania Railroad Station,
and Grand Central every 20 minutes or so, and the cost is a mere $11-.
Newark doesn't have the glory of JFK nor does it have the diversity, but it
has played catch up very quickly, largely at the expense of JFK. If you live
in Eastern New York City or Long Island, then naturally, JFK is the airport
of choice, but to have to sit on the horrible LIE/Van Wyck motionless, even
at 4:00am, I'll take Newark anyday, thank you very much.

Well, I live closer to EWR than JFK, my dad is a pilot for Continental Airlines, and he flies out of EWR. I like EWR a lot, it is less busy on some days, on others, it is more busy. I would prefer EWR over JFK anyday, though JFK is an incredible airport, I tend to lean towards EWR.
