For all of you Dulles Travelers out there:

Quote:

United Moves at Dulles: United Airlines will move its regional jet operations, United Express, to Concourse A of Dulles International Airport by May 1 as a result of taking over gates from Independence Air, the Dulles-based low-fare carrier that folded in January.

From http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...le/2006/03/13/AR2006031301823.html

I know we knew this was happening, but this was the first time I saw a date on it! Thank heaven we no longer have to deal with the scrum in Terminal G anymore on UA Express!

Interesting- I have a UAX flight into IAD on May 1 and was wondering if A would be ready yet. Still- Terminal G was quite an experience... I think the 'G' stood for 'Ghetto', right?

I believe it was 'gulag'  Wink . But really, good that UA is abandoning G. Isn't that concourse also in the way for the planned new C/D-concourse?

Actually it's in the way for the new E/F complex - hence why we skipped from D to G originally.

Today, Dulles looks like this:

----Main Terminal-----
(no gates)--Permanent Z

Perm B ------ Temp A

Temp D ----- Temp C

Temp G

The plan is, I believe to tear down the C/D complex after the completion of the new E/F complex. UA would move to E/F. The next terminal to go would be Temp A - replaced by Perm A. There is also a plan to build the second half of Z once they can move more of the mobile lounge docks.

Finally, a new C/D complex would be built where the current C/D is for growth. That should hold Dulles for ohhhh about 30 years.

Great to see the "Ghetto" concourse is gone at IAD. It truly says a lot about UA Express and UA management that a terminal that bad was used for regional operations. Concourse E in PIT was better!

Ahh yes, but have you ever had to fly out of the Great Lakes gates at DEN? Or how about the trailers that US Express used for turboprop flights out of CLT when it was under construction.

G was a scrum, but it wasn't bad. The problem was boarding ten flights at once when nobody knew where to go.

I know somebody that worked those flights in CLT! He didn't seem to mind it! As for the ZK gates in DEN, was that Stapleton or DIA? If it's Stapleton, then, yeah, it probably was the worst ever.

DIA actually. They are down the escalators in a LOOOOONG corridor at the end of the F9 concourse. There are maybe six seats per "door" and they'll board 8 or so flights from each door.

Sounds like the C concourse at DTW's McNamara before they rebuilt it. Long corridor with four or five seats per 5 or 6 gates. It is a lot better now.

ATL isn't much better. The last time I flew through there on an RJ, I had to go down the steps at the end of Concourse C, and luckily my plane was right there. I'd hate to have to go down the steps further up in the concourse. That concourse was built for mainline jets, not regional aircraft. I'm glad DL is spending the money to refurbish it. It sorely needs it. airTran's side looks better, and that's saying something.

No, it was worse than that. First, the people working the gates spoke barely intelligible English. Second, they practically yelled into the microphones, further distorting whatever syllables are coming through the speakers. Third, they had this ULTRA ANNOYING habit of tapping the microphone twice *before* commencing to yell into them. I don't know who taught them that habit, but they should be slapped.
