Although I don't work for YX, I know someone who does in MKE. Right now, YX is content with building up feed at MCI to various points around the country. MKE-HOU flopped, partially because of no advertising, and also bad loads. It was pulled after three months. YX does have good service though, and I think that should help them in the near future in gaining ground on NW in MKE and MCI. The ERJ order for Skyway was cancelled, but I did hear YX is interested in picking up DH's used CRJs. The July/August 2005 issue of Airliners magazine has a very good article on YX and also on MKE. Hope this answers some of your questions.

In response to your inquiry headline: YES

In response to your second inquiry: Yes but...

Feeding MCI and continuing to build there seems to be the present heading for YX with additional frequencies on existing routes coming June 1st. I think we'll have about 27 or 28 MAINLINE flights a day from MCI (all 717s with the exception of one MD-80 to SFO. )

And in support of that buildup it only makes sense to me to bring on some feeder operations as well. But we need more a/c to do that. And that may be in the works as rumors have been circulating for some time. The casual observer will note that the company has established a catering operation of its own at MCI, partly to save money but I think just as importantly to further cement its Kansas City presence. Could a pilot/F/A domicile be next?

But to answer your question about new routes, none have been announced since the last statement about the June schedule changes was released weeks ago.

Yes, i work for Midwest and love it.

MKE-HOU flopped mainly because of high fuel costs combined with the hurricanes.. no one really was flying to HOU at that time. Rather than stick in the market with empty aircraft and record high fuel prices, just pull out.

MCI growth will continue, especially if the deal for the FRJ's sitting in MYR goes through.. should know by summertime.

A MD-80 flleet replacement program will be announced in the fall, with the new aircraft coming online mid 2007. Most likley Airbus due to the wider cabin, allowing for wider seats. Look for a two class plane. Signature up front, and saver seating in the back.

No new cities this year, unless the FRJ financing comes through.

Well as it has been stated, there wont be to much expanding because there are not going to be any more 717's coming.

Great so finally we know when an announcemnt on that will come out. So that means like 2 months or so? If they do get the FRJ's will they first replace the B1900's? Do you think Skyway will add any new routes outta MKE?

Theres something I'll be looking forward to.....Ive always thought they would go with the 737 and I still think so. I just cant picture airbus in yx colors.

Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

I know that Midwest provides quality service but I don't know if it would be wise to acquire CRJ-200s. They're too high cost to operate.

Some, if not most or all, of the leases on the 1900s are expiring this year, and they don't want to renew them if they don't have to. Two are already gone (801SK and 81SK)

The ultimate goal is to have an all-FRJ fleet. One advantage to that goal is that the EAS contracts are also up for renewal this year, so if they can either renegotiate those to make the routes work better for us, or offload them, it'll benefit us either way.

So to answer your question, if once the 1900s are replaced and there's room to expand, then yes I would imagine seeing additional cities added to the system.

I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

From what I have heard, I am hoping that there will be an announcement on a replacement sometime in June or so.

I have to agree. I don't think there is any way that Midwest would operate the CRJ-200. Skyway operating the CRJ2 would be more likely, but with the cancellation of the ERJ I don't see that happening. Skyway currently appears to be doing well with the B-1900 and the FRJ.

Ha! Here's a funny thing, my crashpad roommate wrote that article. Excellent read.

I heard that back in December. Not quite sure what's happened since then. PIT only gets 1 717 and 4 FRJs a day, so it's not like we're in rumor central anyway.

My guess is when they do expand you will see a MCI-SEA, and when a new plane arrive either A320 family or 737 Family you will see a MKE-SEA as well.
If there are any other ones let me know.
Regards,
Mark in MKE
