Thanks to a.net users feedback, US announced today that the smile on N742PS is now wider.
PSA PLANE GETS WIDER SMILE
Some said it was just the airplane. Others insisted that the smile just wasn’t big enough. Either way, the PSA Heritage Plane today debuts an even bigger, wider smile. After all, it can’t really hurt any of us to offer a bigger smile to our customers, right?

Quoting Tbnist03 (Reply 1): I can't find any other pics with the "new smile". It looks pretty massive to me in that pic. Perhaps it was widened, not lengthened?
I believe the problem was that it wasn't quite as wide as on the original PSA livery. The length was just about right, though. Let's see some pics!!!

Actually a wider smile (with respect to a face) is technically correct. I believe a thicker smile line was what most of us had in mind w/respect to the original PSA smile.

Quoting MajorNelson (Reply 5): I hope they do make it a bit thicker ... but either way , that plane looks incredible ! The Allegheny heritage plane, on the other hand ... !!
Haha, I feel the opposite!
Is it me, or are the colors on the PSA plane just not quite true to original???
Either way, glad they're thickening the smile, it really needed it.

it was posted on our employee web sites "the hub" and "awa compass" with a picture. the project was completed in pit. be on the look out for a revised allegheny retro jet with a bigger logo on the tail. we made noise and they listened. looks like this management team does a lot of listening compared to the old.

That's why the new USAirways has so much better a chance than the old one would have (well, that was a nil chance with the Crystal City management being what it was!). If they listened and acted on employee opinion and reactions to the ALG heritage jet livery matter, it bodes well for future bigger issues.
I must admit I was skeptical abiout this merger, but things like this convince me that the new company is doing what it takes! And Hallelujah to the fact that Crystal City and that malignant previous US management's reign is finally over!
Cant wait to see the revision to the Allegheny jet!

Quoting F9Animal (Reply 13): That looks great! Yes, the other smile was too small. That alone puts a big smile on my face!!!!
Yup!!! Looks like they just about doubled the width of the smile...exactly what it needed!!! I'm very happy to hear that US/HP management listens to even little things like that. It doesn't take much to make a whole bunch of people happy and a little bit of good will goes a long way.
Edit: Now, which US ramper brought a Black Sharpie to work today at PIT???

It may not be authentic, but I actually prefer the way the thinner version was round at the ends, while the new revision has square ends.

I was delighted to see N742PS sitting at gate 23 at SAN tonight, she was home, and I noticed the wider smile right away. It looks like the original. The stripes on the tail don't seem right, but the B727-200 had a smaller area.Kudos to US, may clear skies and smooth flying be with you!

Great to hear it was back in SAN!! And yes the wider smile looks much better. I'm excited that we will be getting mainline back in TUS in July...A319...so maybe someday this jet will come to TUS (once certs are integrated). Looks beautiful!!

I hear you there. Maybe they can fix the ends of the smile to round it out?

err...I wouldn't give this site that much credit. The employees spoke up and management listened - simple as that. Nothing to do with what is said here. If anything, US management does lurk on that other site - since that site is essentially dedicated to that airline. LOL
Either way, great change and it does look much better.
