These are towards the end of 1999. I believe the ranking has changed a bit sinse then (e.g. YYZ is now in the top 25, up a couple of spots).

Check www.airports.org. It has the up to date data for the busiest airports. BTW, YYZ is ranked 27th this year; 26th last year. I was amazed so see how busy Orlando, Phoenix, Seoul and Vegas were.

hmm, that's odd. When I go to the airport, I tune into YYZ's radio station, and there they proudly say they are ranked in the top 25 airports, not top 30.

I can't speak for YYZ, but airports.org is a very good source of info for this type of information. Check it out yourself.

This is sort of a side note, but on the DFW page, they claim that their airport is the busiest in the world (!?!).

How does the counting actually work at airports.org

How do they get some 18 million for the busiest while the actual number is some 80 million?

I really don't see the function of an airport when it gets only 10 visitors a year (#833, Kursk, Russia).
Also, with the new Westjet and lowfare Air Canada expansion there, I imagine Hamilton, Ontario (#780) will move up a few hundred spots.

Why isn't Athens' airport listed there? I have a hard time believing that YEG or the like are busier than ATH.

I heard they are in the process of developing it into a major cargo airport which will also raise the passenger numbers.

Has anyone here actually flown into Hamilton, or visited it?

Vegas is getting busier. I was there last weekend and while on the highway every time you look up above where McCarran International is located, you see a plane that just took off, I saw two md-80's changing direction after take off at the same time.

BTW, on Denver's website, they claim they are the largest airport in the world, Is this true? and in terms of WHAT? Also, RNO is #132 on the passengers list

sorry for the THIRD message, but I was glancing over the top 10 busiest airports, and it says Tokyo Haneda is the 6th busiest. How come when people refer to "flying to Tokyo" they always say NRT (I know this is the airport code) and not HND? No one mentions HND yet it is busier by a large margin. Is this airport used for strictly intra-Asia routes or is it also used for international purposes? I think for Tokyo Haneda to be the 6th busiest and not get nearly as much mention as Narita (which is 31st, BTW) is strange, someone explain this please.

I went to Tokyo Narita last year in April and it is one of the biggest and busiest airports I've been to. I know for sure that Qantas, ANA, SAS, Garuda, Asia Swissair, JAL, JAS, UA, Thai and many others fly to NRT. I really don't understand how Haneda is busier than Narita?

Haneda is used almost solely for domestic purposes. I believe the only foreign airline to fly there is China Airlines. It has a lot more runways than NRT and many of the aircraft operating there are jumbos even if they are only flying a few hundred miles, so that explains why there are so many passengers.

Haneda is 6th busiest in terms of passengers, but it ranks quite low in terms of aircraft movements because almost every aircraft there is 777+ size.
