Howdy, Salaam, Tag, Hola, Hello, Nameste, Aloha, Ciao, etc...

Any info on loads/status of UA's regional (trans states IIRC) SAT-OKC service? I might fly the route in 5 weeks or so, and wanted a warm fuzzy that it will still be around, as the non-stop/schedule aspect is the only reason I am looking at United. (Though the current ~$156USD is the cheapest on the route at the moment, which is a nice bonus)

Thanks for any info.

I flew UA MSY-SAT-MSY yesterday, and while in SAT, I talked to a UA supervisor there who told me that they were very pleased with all of the flights so far from a load factor standpoint.

I was pleased with the Trans States service and the ERJ's were very comfortable as usual. Try them out, you'll like it.

Cool thanks for the words. I will probably just do that, even though I don't have miles on UA. I normally stick with CO but I am willing to roll the non-stop as coincedentally the timing works out great. $156 is not bad either LOL

I would suggest getting a US account. You can get UA and America West miles on a US account, but currently you cannot accrue HP miles on UA.

You know now that you mention it I just got a US account about a month ago, after I did a MGM-RDU and back weekend trip. So I do have a few on US already. I see from the webpage I can enter a US number. Thanks for the craniums up!

No problem ! You can indeed enter a US account for united.

I would also look into www.lotsmoremiles.com

15K bonus miles with no annual fee for the first two years. Plus lots of other cool stuff like $99 companion passes and free lounge/club passes. I plan on keeping mine right up until the first annual fee is due  Smile

I think one thing to note about this route, the 2nd nonstop seems to have been indefinitely scrubbed.

Hmm, well the one flight doesn't feed much to SAT does it?

I vaguely remembered (and searched back and reread the threads) when Trans States started this service. It seems OKC got one to MSY as well. Interesting strategy.

I am happy with the price and schedule for the nonstop so I took it, but will not be able to use it again-I hope it works for them.

Hey Lt,

I did the OKC r/t a few weeks ago, and both mid-week segments had fewer than 5 open seats... both flights had at least a half dozen Valero guys... on the return they were joking about gigging the Valero booking rules to score the nonstop... can't speak for the overall yield though.

On Wednesday I took the evening SAT-COS flight... only 3 open seats... if I got my count right... packed in any case... mostly suites and high & tights... the FA earned her keep fetching cocktails. The guy across the isle from me was a USAA exec... said his ticket was $1500 something.

Today (Saturday morning)... my return... was a different story. *Maybe* 20 of us... we landed about 15 minutes early but there were issues with UA gate space and we ended up in the penalty box for over 40 min!!! A SAT first for me. There was another UA ERJ (from OKC & outbound to OMA N832HK???) in the penalty box with us for the first 20 minutes. It took another 10+ minutes sweating in the jetway before the gate checks showed up... IMO, somewhat excessive for a lightly loaded ER4. In any case, UA seems to be pushing the limits with their T1 gates and staff.

As for UX/Trans States' service... Don't expect the all around consistency you get from CO or WN. Both of my outbounds were on a/c in UA's old colors, but the aircraft had the all grey low back Trans World Express/ American Connection interiors... low N8??HK regos. Both of my returns were on what I believe are former Crossair jungle jets... very ratty, cracked blue leather seats with gray inserts, but in UA's new exterior colors. All of the aircraft interiors seem to be worn & in need of an update, but the low 800HKs seem to be nicer IMO. I only used the lav on the return today and noticed the basin was filled with sani-wipes... the plumbing was either in/op or this is a cost cutting measure. All of the FAs were attractive, courteous and perky (if not overly perky) except for today's flight... she sat in 18A (last row) and relaxed under a blanket for an hour and fifteen minutes before doing the beverage service somewhere around Junction, TX (30 min out)!!! Another first for me.

I've found all of UA's ground staff to be pleasant and helpful... especially in OKC and COS... in SAT they seemed overwhelmed, if not distracted... getting back to the SAT streched too thin observation.

This is likely unrelated to UA's expansion, but I had my first 30+ minute security check point line at SAT T1 on Wednesday... I got in the line at the Southwest counters! Another first for me after 5 years of very frequent SAT T1 travel.

Bottom line... give 'um a try. Nit-picking aside, you just can't beat the non-stop service.
