Did OS get all (how many?) the 777's from NG? What routes do they fly? I saw pictures of the interior and some of them look really similar to EK's... I also saw the pictures of the 777 in Portuagal but i didn't think that would be a regular route...anyone have insight? I thought Austrian had some long haul Airbus' on order...

Thanks

Yes they got all from NG (3 aircraft) but there is only a difference in colors since Lauda has been under Austrian management for years. The planes are used on the flights to MEL and SYD via KUL as well as some charter flights like the one you saw pictures of in FNC. Austrian does not have any Airbus widebodies on order - I believe another 777 is planned to join the fleet in 2007 since the A342 are leaving.

Correct what you said, except that the fourth 777 should arrive fresh out of the factory in fall 2006. The first A342, OE-LAH has already left the fleet, OE-LAG will leave by the end of the summer flighplan 2006.

Speaking of OS's brandnew 777 coming soon, what is the customer code for Austrian Airlines at Boeing? I tried to search for it, but no luck, as if Austrian never was a Boeing customer until now. Or will they get them under NG's customer code, which is Z9?

I believe the 777 that is coming soon is the first airplane that Austrian has ordered directly from Boeing. They did lease a 707 back in the 60s or 70s(not exactly sure on the timeframe), and of course the 737s and 777s came from and were ordered originally by Lauda. I would assume that since Lauda is being absorbed into Austrian, that the Z9 code will be used for Austrian now.

B8

Actually, they weren't. Until they ordered the 737-800's in 2003, Austrian Airlines proper had never directly ordered a Boeing aircraft. Their subsidiaries had, of course, but not OS.

Close, but it was actually the 738's, ordered by OS but flown by NG, that were the first Boeing planes directly purchased.

No, OS got a new code, which once again is B8.

Any chance, OS will send the 777s to NRT once the fourth one is delivered?
It takes only two aircraft to do the VIE-Australia route.

It takes 3 a/c to fly 9/7 (6/7 SYD + 3/7 MEL) to Australia.
The fourth T7 will fly DEL during the winter (starting 01/07) and IAD during the summer.

Never knew OS group had that many flights to Australia.
I suppose there is hope that OS group orders more long-haul aircraft.

Doesn't the 777 fly as OS7/8 via SIN anymore?

I flew on them twice SIN-VIE a year and a half ago and thought they were ok but look a bit dated inside.

Then I flew BKK-VIE with one of the A340s in C and what a difference in cabin style!

OS is flying to MEL via SIN 3/7 with B772. And the flight number is OS007/OS008.

Can you give us a source please. I don't think that the 777 will be used on North American flights. OS often uses (as today 16. April) the 767 instead of the A330 to flights like KJFK because of lower payload.

Many thanks for the info, Hamlet69 and Ka!

Very much looking forward to seeing OS 777 here at IAD next summer, if I'm still here.
